Guest keltie Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 Hi my dad is pulling out what little remains of his hair. Bless! He has tried to work out how to get into the casing surrounding the handbrake to adjust or replace cable as necessary. Does anyone here know how to get into the casing please... Will be very grateful as will my Dad's poor scalp! My car is a 2003 Xsara desire HDi 110bhp 2.0 estate. Kind regards. Quote
Guest Ialsorideaharley Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Been a while since I did mine, but IIRC the whole centre console has to come out to expose the handbrake adjuster, and it's a pig to get at even then. I just can't remember where the fixings are...... Quote
Johndouglas Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 I haven't needed to do the job on our Xsara but I've done the Pug 306 and it looks very similar. To take the centre console out, remove the ashtray from the rear and prise off the trim cover. If there's window switches they'll need disconnecting. Prise up the handbrake lever gaiter and remove it over the top of the handbrake. Remove the front ashtray and prise free the other tray. There are 5 screws holding the ashtray/cigar lighter. Disconnect the cable and withdraw it. Inside the ashtray aperture there are screws holding the console to the floor. Undo them and pull the console to the rear to remove. Handbrake ajustment screws are underneath. On the 306 I think I needed to remove the grip on the handbrake. Some heat helps to get it off. Washingup liquid to replace. Quote
