Guest philjw Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 Hi Guys, Anyone changed a front wheel bearing on a C5 2.0 HDi 2004- ? If so, is this an easy change - what's involved ? I bottled this job and had my 2005 model done by a local french specialist indy. He reckoned it needed 12 tonnes of pressure to get the old bearing out. There are some tricks to doing this yourself. Search around for a method involving placing a ring of weld on the old outer race. When it cools the bearing is shrunk and comes out easier. If you succeed in getting the old bearing out you will need to press in the new one. If you don't have a press you can do this with suitable sized sockets as spacers and a good sized vice. I had the bearing and a track rod done for £177 which was a lot less than the dealer quoted. Guest kimosabe Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 If you are capable in getting the whole hub off...Take the hub and the new bearing along to your local garage who will I am sure press out the old bearing and press in the new one for you..about a 5 minute job..I have done this a few times over the years and only got charged a tenner for the work done..Saves a few £££ Quote
coastline taxis Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 the bearings are no harder to do than a mondeo or a vectra and as kimo says take the hub to any garage and theyl press it out for a packet of tabs Quote
