mlkey Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Hi, I have been looking to get a diagnostic tool for my C5, and also my son's Peugeot 207. On ebay, there are a variety of diagnostic tools available, including various versions of the dealer kit, Lexia 3. Now, I realise these are not the genuine article, but I would like to do certain tasks myself to avoid dealer visits. Apart from reading DTC's when the need arises, I would like to be able to reset the oil counter on the auto transmission, and enable cruise now I have all the hardware fitted. Does anyone have any experience of the Lexia units on ebay? If so, do you think I will be able to perform these tasks? Are there better tools around that may do these things? My budget is around £200 max. Thanks for any advice. Quote
Johndouglas Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 I would put your question on www.frenchcarforum.co.uk --- There are lots of guys with them there. In fact if you do a search you'll bring up a map of UK marking the homes of owners who are willing to help. Generally they seem to be satisfied with them. Quote

I have been sitting on the fence as there have been reports of these units having issues with the C5, but I am going to dive in and order one today  Quote
Guest Boon Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Could you please report back with your experiences with the Lexia 3 and the C5, as im half considering getting one myself. Thanks Quote
Guest yeomills Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 I would also be interested in a report as I have looked at these on E bay and the seller reported that they are not compatable with C5c.Barry Quote
mlkey Posted March 29, 2011 Author Posted March 29, 2011 Hi, Well, I got the Lexia 3 off ebay. It comes with both the Peugeot and Citroen software. You need to run it on XP, it does not like Windows 7. I installed the XP mode virtual machine (free from Microsoft), and once I got the USB working it was fine.. I have already had to use it on the 207, and it worked faultlessly. I was able to find the cause of the engine light, and had a little play. I could log real time data and all sorts, so happy it is working well on the 207. The C5 however, is a different story. It connects fine, and talks correctly to most of the modules, but each time I use it, I get different options coming up in the software, it will not talk to the engine module correctly, and seems to lack all live data logging. I am still finding my way around the software, but have since read that these tools do not work well on the C5's. I will be having another play this week, the verdict is still out for me as to how useful the Lexia will be on the C5. That said, it does read and clear faults without issue, but I was hoping for a lot more. I will post again towards the end of the week and let you know if I have managed to get further with the C5. mlkey Posted March 29, 2011 Author Posted March 29, 2011 Having spent the day playing with the Lexia 3, I can happily confirm I am more than chuffed with it :) It appears to do everything a dealer can do, or at least everything I would want to do. I was able to communicate with all the modules on my 2004 C5, have already reset the auto transmission oil counter, and monitored various engine and ignition parameters in the hunt for the illusive intermittent misfire. As far as I am concerned, it was worth every penny, and the ramblings I read regarding this tool not working well with the C5 seem to be unfounded. It really is a case of spending some time learning your way around the software. Hope that helps. Quote
Guest Boon Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 do you have to get a login into the citroen network service site to use the lexia - or is it a case of install, plug and play ? Thanks again for replying - think i am going to invest in this pretty soon Quote

Guest majorjam Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 Thanks Milkey,Just need XP on my laptop :) Quote
mlkey Posted April 7, 2011 Author Posted April 7, 2011 Thanks Milkey,Just need XP on my laptop :) Depends what your running and the spec of the laptop.. If you are on Windows 7, depending on the version, you may be able to install XP mode from Microsoft. I have done this, it basically runs a virtual machine on your desktop in XP, and so is compatible with the Lexia software. XP Mode is free from Microsoft. Hope that helps. Quote

My budget is around £200 max. did you manage to enable the cruise control? I was trying to do it on a proxia system at the (only) citroen dealer in Sri Lanka; we found the option in the ECU settings to enable Cruise Control, but there's supposed to be a another place in the BSI to enable it and we couldn't find that option :) Quote
Guest yeomills Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 PM sent. Mikey. I am also looking to purchase a lexia suitable for my C5 2.2 HDI 07 reg. And would be interested in your source and cost. Regards Barry Quote

I found the option in the engine ECU, but it was not present in the BSI, so I figured it needed a software upgrade perhaps. I have done without cruise all this time, so will not pursue that any further. Quote

I am pleased to report that I have today finally got cruise enabled. It turns out you only need to enable it in the Injection ECU. I think the trick is that you have to let the car go to sleep after you have done it, i.e. lock it and go have a cup of tea. Come back and it works !!! :) Quote
citrophile Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 Hi MlkeyWould you mind letting me know where you obtained your Lexia kit from? You seem to have got yours to work fine with the C5 and I have 2 of them and don't want to have to pay dealer rates for doing some simple stuff.ThanksRob Quote

The seller although still active no longer sells the units. Ensure you get genuine cables and all seems to work well. Hope that helps. Quote
