sistermusic Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 Looking forward to delivery of our new Berlingo 1.6 Hdi next month! (Upgrading from a picasso!) From all i've seen and read it seems to be a very tall vehicle, taller than say a ford galaxy and such like large people carriers.Has anyone found this to be a problem, say when going into low multistorey car parks? from memory i think the brochure gives the height as 1810mm. Only a range rover seems taller! Quote
DesdinovaUK2 Posted February 20, 2006 Posted February 20, 2006 Funnily enough having owned our 53 reg for 2.5 years now, experienced my only difficulty so far last week at a car park in the town centre in Ashford, Kent which had a low roof of only 1.7 metres. Apart from that no bother, it's fine in the normal carriages on Eurotunnel, you don't have to go as a high vehicle unless you have a roof box. If you do have a roof box and travel to the French Riviera expect parking difficulties though, as we discovered last summer most car parks down there have a height restriction of about 2 metres. Guest CE05LDB Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 The French don't like using the Berlingo or Peugeot partners then just send them all over here because our car parks are easier to get in to  Quote
Terry1100 Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 Sistermusic, We too "upgraded" from a Picasso - you won't regret it (and nor will your wallet  ). Height has never been a problem for us - the only dimension issue with a Blingo is the space you need to open the tailgate. Personally I cannot go forwards into a parking space in a car park as it is an affront to geometry - we end up driving round to find an "appropriate" space if we need to open the tailgate. Having said that, it is very easy to use a side door and tilt the rear seat to get boot access (Thats another area where the Blingo scores over the Pic) Quote
hertsnminds Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 How do you reach to wash the roof? Quote
sistermusic Posted February 21, 2006 Author Posted February 21, 2006 Thanks for the reassurance Our picasso always did get blown around a bit on a windy day on the motorway,( maybe just my driving)is the berlingo worse in this respect because of the height? : Quote
Terry1100 Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 I would say that the Blingo is no worse than the Picasso (it's only about 100kg lighter kerb weight depending on model. Now the C2, that's another matter over the Medway Bridge on a bad day  Quote
sistermusic Posted February 21, 2006 Author Posted February 21, 2006 Thanks! What a friendly bunch you all are. While we're not on the subject, anyone got favourite colour for the berlingowe're probably going for Iron Grey Quote
Terry1100 Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 There may be an old thread on the subject from the days when we were more active round here. Colour was as widely debated as the petrol vs. tractor fuel argument (no spin there!). Ours is Sahara Gold (or Beige in DVLA speak  ) I wanted the metallic dark green, and SWMBO and the kids wanted Wicked Red - so we compromised. About the only thing we agreed on was that we didn't want a blue interior (which is a pity as the Poseidon Blue extrerior colour is quite nice). I think Iron Grey would be a good choice - it wasn't available last year. cheers Quote
DesdinovaUK2 Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 Silver here, the grey wasn't available when we bought but always looks nice when I see one. The height restriction on Riviera car parks is to prevent camper vans taking over the car parks apparently. Quote
tronboy Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 Iron Grey is gorgeous, but shows up minor shopping trolley dings like anything. That's why I stuck with Mediterranean Blue. Quote
moon_monkie Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 Ours is Silver and I haven't seen a colour that suits it better (but then I like Silver cars)! I also find that I sometimes need to flatten the ariel when using a multistory car park as otherwise it scrapes along the ceiling... Quote
northman Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 Never had a problem with height. All car parks I've been to are fine. OK, it's too tall to go into our garage, but what sort of eejit puts their car in their garage? And it's too tall to wash the roof easily - so I just don't bother. Never had a problem with side winds, but a friend was caught by a freak gust, and result was not good. Regarding colour, ours is silver, and I like it. Iron grey looks nice - so does Poseidon blue. Quote
Oxymoron Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 Hi,Not had any problems with the height, although the Desire model is a little higher with the roof rails and actually comes into the next height category on the cross Channel ferries!...I just quote the lower official figure, which must be based on the Forte model.Of course, once loaded up with passengers, fuel and luggage, the car sinks down quite a bit....The aerial does catch on Max Headroom signs sometimes! We narrowed colour choice down to Poseidon blue or Arctic silver colours, but decided on the silver, as it suits the car and I prefer the blue interior too!Cheerz. p.s.The med. blue colour has grown on me since, but I think that I would go for the Iron Grey next time! Quote
Oxymoron Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 Hi,To wash the roof I just open the sliding doors and stand on the sill, whilst hanging on to the roof rails! Quote
Terry1100 Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 next height category on the cross Channel ferries It was OK on Speedferries without extra charge at it's declared "official" height (1.84m from memory) - and it definitely fits OK on the shuttle. Quote
DesdinovaUK2 Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 Agree with Terry there, Dover resident with a Desire, we're always popping over the water, amd have never been classed as high sided without the roof box, and that includes SeaFrog, Speedferries, Hoverspeed as was and the tunnel - I'll admit that since we never use P&O (who in their right mind would?) I wouldn't know about them. Quote
Terry1100 Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 Sister, If you're looking for problems as it were. about the only thing I'd criticise the Blingo for dimensionally is that it's turning circle is perhaps a bit worse than you'd expect. It's not a big problem (and I haven't checked the specs of the D***lo or the Kan'tgoo) but it occasionally makes me take second stab when manoevreing that I would'nt need in other cars. Quote
ian_c Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 This morning I looked at the height of the garage door and the back of the Vaneo... nothing as scientific as measuring it but I really don't think it will fit! Good job I use my garage for "stuff" and keep the car on the drive  Quote
tronboy Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 Good job I use my garage for "stuff" and keep the car on the drive :unsure:Ditch the 'stuff'. Garages are for cars! Quote
ian_c Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 Nah, garage is my workshop, and is only a single. As long as it is half clear so I can work under cover that's fine for me. Quote
ian_c Posted March 1, 2006 Posted March 1, 2006 Entered my first multistorey today.... looked at the height limit, hmmm 2metres... umm... Never driven so cautiously in all my life, but I needn't have worried, cleared fine. Just sooo scared of scratching my new toy  Quote
