Automatic Gearbox

HI,

Just bought a C5 auto 51 reg with 148k on the clock.Driving it home yesterday I knew the spheres were needing done,but going to work

this morning on the motorway it wouldn't go into top gear.

 

It will go into 4th in tiptronic mode but not in drive.

 

Please someone tell me this is not a Major repair and that it's an easy inexpensive solution.

Your 1st port of call has to be the dealers and get it plugged in and see what the fault code is. It could be anything from just needing a oil change to a full rebuild dont let people try and guess as these boxes are just to complicated to be mucking around with

Thanks for your reply.I have found a local mechanic who has the diagnostic equipment required and has the car in his workshop now.I dropped it off this

morning and haven't heard from him,so I'm praying that the old saying,no news is good news applies.lol.

Does anybody know how much a recon auto box is? or the best place in the south (berkshire) to take the car and get my own box sorted?

Hi,

The fault that came up was unknown to my mechanic, who is a peugeot specialist.I have to take my car to an independent mechanic tomorrow who has

a diagnostic system thats better than the one used.

 

I will have a better idea later in the week.
