Guest RichTD Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 I just found this site and it is a mine of useful information, many thanks to all. I have had my 03 reg C5 2.0 HDI SX for just over a month now, and being techie by nature I would like to be able to plug something in and find out what is wrong. The fault is that when I accellerate hard, she flies for a few seconds, then the aniti pollution light comes on and it all goes limp. I have seen similar questions and people posting fault codes, but no where can I find out how to get the fault codes from the ecu, what I need to read them or even where what ever I need plugs in. I have a few days of now so with the help (laf) of the haynes manual I will do some basic checks, (air filter, hoses etc) but with the MOT looming thing need to be sorted without resort to the main dealer (unless absolutely necessay). When I had my XM a 15 quid box from halfords gave me the fault codes.... oh so simple. With thanks in advance. Richard Quote
Guest RichTD Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 PS the anti pollution and service light stay on even after a restart. Leave it to cool down for a few hours and everything is fine until the next bit of oomph is applied. Quote
Guest willander Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Hello, my wife has had a similar fault on her car twice. I took it to the local citroen garage ( not a main dealer, an ex dealer that just does servicing / repairs on citroens ).He plugged it in and there was nothing detected as a fault. He asked me where i bought my diesel and said that it could just be dirty fuel. The car was low fuel ( wife just cannot master the putting fuel in the car trick ) just before the fault came up, similar to what you describe, anti polution, low revs. I put more fuel in and the fault cleared. A few weeks later wife does same trick, lets fuel drop to low low level and the anti-pollution fault comes in again. I put more fuel in and the fault cleared. I did not think it would be dirty fuel but it probably is even though we only use branded fuels, shell, esso and no supermarket fuel. Stephen Quote
Johndouglas Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 You need to get your C5 on a Lexia and get the codes read. Thats the diagnostic machine used by Cit/Pug dealers. Cost will be around £45. Home mechanics use a Chinese clone Lexia which can be bought on ebay for £120 or so. Some guys on this site own them and on FCF many more do and they have a map on their forum showing the homes of those who are willing to allow you to visit for a 'plugin' session. It sounds as though your FAP is getting blocked. Maybe Eolys fluid is depleated. Quote
Guest RichTD Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Thanks so far for the ideas. When I picked up the car the fuel light was on, I immediately put 20 quids worth of BP ordinair in to get me home. The first time I gunned it on the A13 that's when it did the anti pol thing, which stayed on even after a couple of stops. Next morning it had "mended" itself! Then I put 60 quid's worth of supermarket stuff in it and did about 300 miles with no problems, then on the M1 I floored it and it did it again and I limped home. Having read many comments about Lexia (mostly not working) I am loath to fork out for one and spend hours of grief with it! If anyone has got one and is willing to tell me where to get a "good" chinese one and how to set it up, plug it in and get ti working that would be great. PS I still don't know where it would plug in to the car! Today I replaced the air filter, examined the FAP which was a bit oily, but not corroded, I gently wiped it with kitchen towel, but it wasn't what you would call "drenched", filled up at the supermarket again and added some redex as some on here advocate. I'll see how it goes, and get a FAP from ebay. As for the Eolys system, I understand that was only fitted to the 2.2 on the early models. How can I find out? Many thanks again. Richard Quote

That's under the car and it's part of the exhaust system. To get to it you'll need to disconnect two sensors, undo the exhaust clips and take the section out. But you're right! When C5's first came out, it was only the 2.2s that had FAPs and eolys fluid. Now they've all got them. When the change came about, I'm not sure. My 2005 has, your 2003 maybe, maybe not. Best to look underneath. Lexia plugs into a 16pin socket behind a panel in the glovebox. Quote

If I look underneath what am I looking for the presence or absence of please. Many thanks for your time. Richard Quote
