myke Posted April 11, 2006 Posted April 11, 2006 Just to keep things ticking over I have another question for all you Multispace experts. Are squealing brakes a recognised Berlingo problem? Difficult to tell exactly but I think it is happening both front and rear. Looks like I may have to do it myself as it isnt a Warranty Issue and i am not taking the car on a 200 mile round trip to the dealer so is there anything to remember? I intend to remove the pads, clean up the back of them and the pistons and coat with copper slip. Are the rear drums easy to remove? Thanks in anticipation. Quote
Terry1100 Posted April 11, 2006 Posted April 11, 2006 It's never happened to our Berlingo but it plagued my C2 until the front discs were replaced. Copperslip on the backs of the pads would seem the obvious solution (unless the discs are badly worn). I'm not aware of any issues related to the rear drums. Quote
DickieG Posted April 12, 2006 Posted April 12, 2006 My old Multispace and my wifes Picasso suffered from this, coming from the rear drums, the noise would normally occur at slow speeds. Removing the drums is easy as they are independant of the bearings. Other than cleaning everything up, try using sandpaper on the linings in order to remove the glaze that buikds up. Quote
DaveWeller Posted June 17, 2006 Posted June 17, 2006 I have Lucas calipers on the front (2000 1.4), they squeal, the Lucas pads do not cover the disc area properly , so I modify them a bit with the dremel, problem goes away but comes back when the pads wear again.Answer would be new pads from a different maker. Of course copper slip is used on the backs. The problem started because of brake fade, the pads were too tight in the disc caliper when new, I should have taken the file to them when I installed them in the first place. Quote
