chrsfrm Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 Hi, me gain (already) Just heard a rotational noise from front wheels, even when in neutral, so looked under, found passenger side outer CV joint gater has dropped all its grease over the inside of the wheel and brakes. Anyone know how much in garage? Hope its just the CV gater repair kit needed, or maybe whole drive shaft arm if damage has been doen to outer joint. Thanx Chris Quote
Johndouglas Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 Whether or not the joint is damaged is dependant upon how long the gaiter has been open. You haven't said what car you have but generally, to replace the boot you'll need to remove the hub from the driveshaft end, and probably withdraw the shaft from the transmission. A much easier solution would be to use a split boot kit. Opinions differ on how serviceable they are. Quote
chrsfrm Posted April 22, 2006 Author Posted April 22, 2006 Thanx John, it is an AX 954cc manual. Boot has only opened today, when noise was noticed so I hope damage may be minimal. I haven't got time to repair myself so its into an independant garage. Estimating an hours work + parts? Chris Quote
Johndouglas Posted April 23, 2006 Posted April 23, 2006 Before I spent money on paying for a replacement gaiter, I would want to know if the driveshaft was serviceable. If it's rumbling - it isn't. A reconditioned shaft can be bought from GSF for 75quid. Quote
