Rodtrotter Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 Hi I just got a 2002 1.4 lx c3 on checking the oil I found that the end of the dipstick is missing I am told this is a common problem is there a replacement you can get with out the plastic end if not how long do they normally last before breaking . kfk Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 the plastic end breaks because users pull them out at an angle and they become brittle over time.........they dont make one with a metal end. As far as replacing it goes......the old bit will probaby fall into the sump, if it does it wont cause any dameage or go anywhere so dont get stressed about it. If it gets stuck in the dipstick tube, it ussually means the new dipstick wont push all the way in.....if thats the case sometimes trimming upto a centimetre of the tip of the new one can overcome the problem withought resorting to spending loads of money at your friendly garage. snapper Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 Hi, we have just got a 2002 1.4 C3 SX and that has the same problem, any chance someone could take a quick photo of a good dipstick end, measure the dipstick (overall and distance from the end to the low level and high level marks) and post the results along with the pic on here please. That way I can just make a new end and braze it on. No more plastic bits! Many thanks. Quote
