andybest Posted April 25, 2006 Posted April 25, 2006 Does anyone know why the doors sometimes give me a light shock when i touch the metal on the door? How can i solve this? Quote
toblerone Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 It's static build up, that discharges when you touch the car. Particularly if your wearing anything thats manmade ;) Quote
arrows Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 When you open the door hold the edge of it and keep holding it until your foot is on the floor. You won't feel a shock this way. Hope this helps. Quote
bigbri838 Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 I've always found that sitting in the drivers seat until the passenger gets out works too Quote
ColinC1 Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 The static is not getting away from the car body to earth. I had this problem on a ford capri years ago and it was horrible. Solution (although a bit unsightly)You need to get down to Halfords or any car parts retailer and buy a 'static discharge strap'The strap is screw fixed to the underside of the cars metal and hangs down to earth as it touches the road when stationary, it lifts up off the road with wind flow. They recommend fitting it at the back, but it is a bit unsightly there as people see it.I fitted mine a bit futher in, and was hidden by the back wheel. No problems after that. Quote
mimapuddleduck Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 I have that same problem in dry weather. i usually kick the door shut when it happens... either that or let the passenger take the shock for me ;) Quote
TurboSlag Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 Does anyone know why the doors sometimes give me a light shock when i touch the metal on the door? How can i solve this?Change you carpet mats for rubber ones. This'll stop the movement of your feet on the nylon charging you up. Job done. Don't waste your money on these static discharge strips - they don't do anything that your tyres wont. Quote
techbod Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 its normal with today's cars even the best so how to prevent it, open the door and hold the metal then put your foot on the ground this will discharge the static to the ground and not you, where it get you is you put your foot on the ground first the put your hand on the car so your still charged up and when you touch the metal on the door you discharge the static on the car, my Lexus did it lol and shocking it was too and not good if you have a pace maker ;) Quote
