Hi everyone. We have just done 2000+ miles taking a fortnights holiday to France in our '52 Xsara2.0 HDi. The car ran superbly, but one day I happened to glance at the dash and the headlight-on indicator bulb was flashing. It continued for about 5 to 10 seconds then went off. I was concerned that my headlamps may have been flashing at the same time. A few days later, the same thing happened in an underground car park and the headlamps came on and stayed on while the repeater bulb flashed. Once the flashing stopped, the headlamps went off. I have never noticed this before, and it has happened a couple of times since. Any ideas greatly appreciated thanks. Keith.

Probably a fault developing in the switching for the headlights. Unfortunately all the switches that are controlled from under the steering wheel are all within the same unit - the Comm2000. The bad news is that they cost a lot of notes.

Thanks for that- interesting. Earlier this year I replaced the factory cassette/radio with a standard shop-bought model. I just used the speaker connectors and left the other plugs disconnected. I presume some of these are to do with the stalk volume/ tuning controls which obviously no longer work. Could the fact that these are disconnected be interfering with the functioning of the other controls in some way?

I also have a '52'plated 2.0 Xsara HDi (90hp model) like you I changed out the factory fitted radio cassette thing for a shop bought one.  As you rightly pointed out there are several wires that are now not connected  to any thing, these are for the stalk controls, however, I have not had any issues concerning the main headlights. I changed out the radio over 4 years ago, so I'm assuming the lighs issue is not related to the radio.

Hope that helps.

It might seem a dumb question, but is your windscreen in good condition and clean ?

The sensor for the auto lighting is up in the 'black' area behind the rear view mirror, if that is damaged (stone chip) or dirty it could be confusing the control unit
