gaztank Posted August 6, 2011 Posted August 6, 2011 i had my car mot'd and the young tester who was a little stressed was taking his anger out on the customers,(manager was unaware as he was in the workshop shouting at his mechanics,or outside having a fag) i used MR CLUTCH in norwich as mots were only £28. i arrived on time for my appointment and was told they were running late, by about 40 minutes, funny really they must of slipped and extra one in as he was just starting one. and mots take approx, 40-50mins. any way it failled on a l/h brake light, which was working ok 1 hour before. he said he would pass the car if the garage changed the bulb, extra £3. advisory items, nearside and offside repeater indicators slightly discoloured ? apparently not orange enough, he said i needed new bulbs. offside antiroll bar linkage has slight play in ball joint, what does that involve. and apparently the front seatbelts are are a little slow to retract, i thought this was normal for citroen. and finally he said the brakes all round were very worn, i new the brakes were getting low anyway, but i think he was looking for extra work for the garage. last year i had the vehicle serviced 62000 mile and they said i would need a new exhaust soon as it was blowing, i did nothing and when it came to its mot, not a mention, who can you trust. i look forward to some input to the anti rollbar issue and the seatbelt, can the springs be adjusted.?. regards gary. ps citroen c5 2002 lx estate 2l hdi 68800 miles now, Quote
Johndouglas Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 Congratulations on the MOT. It's always a relief to get it behind you. I know since I have four cars to get done. Fading yellow on indicator bulbs is a popular advisory and now that they come up on the computer the following year, will be a fail if they are not done in time for next year. If you do a search on the site there's plenty of advice on changing brake discs and pads. Your anti-roll bar problem is likely to be the drop links. Not too difficult to do and not at all expensive - around £25. Citroen C5 seat belts always seem to be sluggish to retract. I've heard that a spray with silicone spray can help. Quote
ukwide Posted August 8, 2011 Posted August 8, 2011 Not sure about all your other issues, but I would take up the issue of the seatbelt being slow to retract. The test requires that the Belt buckle fastens and holds and when the belt is placed under sharp tension (give it a tug Guv) it locks up and stops the belt from unreeling any further. My Audi Cabriolet (weekend toy) is the same and they are notorious for being slow to, or failing to retract, it's been like it for donkeys years (pointless changing it, roof down and dust blocks the mechanism)and it's never failed or for that matter been mentioned on any MOT. I did ask when the car was serviced a couple of years ago and they told me not to bother unless the belt was damaged, which its not, because it didn't affect the outcome of the MoT. Rgds Gary Quote
gaztank Posted August 11, 2011 Author Posted August 11, 2011 thank you for the info john, I might use an aerosole air spray into the workings before silicone spray, Ive done the brakes before but never the anti roll bar. Are you able to help me with another little fault I have about my f18 fuse blowing, it has been alright for the last 6 months and suddenly it blew after we started the engine this time,(normally it blows before start up) we could not get the car out of park. the f18 fuse normally protects the gear selector, flywheel sensor and diagnostic plug, 9thats what the car manual tells us,strange thing is, with the fuse blown why is the engine still turning when. eg flywheel sensor is nolonger operational. We changed the 10amp fuse and away we went. the question I need is does this fuse protect any other circuits. as the haynes manual has very poor wiring diagram and they are not complete, its not the best book they have produced, ok to dismantle and thats it.
