myke Posted April 29, 2006 Posted April 29, 2006 Another question for the experts. 04 1.9D with 23000 on the clock. Changing from second to first at slow speed, sometimes the box baulks party or the gearstick needs a good shove to engage. I am not sure if the gear change between the other gears is as smooth as it should be at times but the box never crunches. The dealer has tried to tell me that due to the size of the first gear cogs I may experience some baulking on 2 to 1 down changes. Sounds a bit iffy to me as modern boxes with synchro should cope with down changes easily and smoothly. They are going to check it but I though I would ask others if they have experienced anything like this? Still like the car though. :D Quote
kfk Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 Is this a problem that has recently occured......have you owned it long? Its worth making sure that the clutch pedal height is correct and that the pedal is able to make full travel to the carpet. If you have mats in the car try removing them to see if it makes a difference. Also make sure the seat is adjusted correctly so you can push it all the way down.......yes i know it sounds stupid, but some people just get in and drive! When you took it to your dealer did they say they couldnt fault it ?.....has it had any gearbox repairs?.....did they check the gearbox oil level? If it was my car and i wasnt happy about it i would check all external conditions as i mentoned above, drain the gear oil and check for swarf/contamination (shiny bits of metal), replace it with fresh oil to correct level and then try it. If still not happy ask myself how often it happens and whether i think i would see the problem when i strip the box.....i'm a technician. If i dont feel there will be a visible fault i would drive it and let it develop. Quote
DaveWeller Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 The only thing I can really fault with the car/van is the gearbox, having owned mine from new, it is the same after 45000 miles, a baulky poor change, but after all it is a van type box, not a great cearbox but strong, I hope. My wife has always had problems with it, but not me, (ex white van man)RegardsDave Quote
