Joeblunt Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 I think tyre pressures aren't checked enough really, admit it when did you last check yours?Tyre pressures are so important really, stability, tyre wear, braking, mpg, etc.... So, do you check yours regularly? whats your pressures? (do you know or are you popping outside to check?) Do you run your tyres harder or softer than the recommended pressures? Quote
wozza Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 3 days ago and topped them up although was only down 1psi at the front. Quote
Mat Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 Havent got a clue. If its not flat at the bottom, its fine :P Quote
Joeblunt Posted May 7, 2006 Author Posted May 7, 2006 Havent got a clue. If its not flat at the bottom, its fine B) Think of them extra MPG's you could be losing? :P Quote
wozza Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 check my car weekly if anything needs sorting check fluids oil etc and also check tyres. I actually run mine slightly over inflated though being honest because i think it corners better nearer the limits to my driving style. So i run them all at 40-42psi front and back. Quote

kfk Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 The RAC Foundation Tyre Pressure Fact File: 20 per cent under-inflation can increase tyre wear by 25 per cent 20 per cent under-inflation can reduce tyre life by 30 per cent 20 per cent under inflation can reduce fuel economy by three per cent 10% of cars are running on illegal tyres (under 1.6mm tread) 90% of tyres are incorrectly inflated Tyre manufacturers estimate that three quarters of accidents caused by “blowouts” are down to incorrect pressures Under-inflated tyres cause a reduction in the overall control of the vehicle and increased braking distances Over–inflated tyres cause poor vehicle handling, reduced stability in braking, cornering and reduced grip Drivers should check their tyres at least once a month Quote
kfk Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 And then you get the situtation where people decide to upgrade there wheels 'because they look nice' and dont have a clue how much pressure is needed in there new low profile rubbers. The extra stiffness caused by low profiles and high tyre pressures causes the car to vibrate itself apart.....something we then blame on Citroen build quality! It never ceases to amaze me how much people will spend on wheels and tyres, how hard they think they drive their car, and how little they know about the tyre in contact with the road and keeping them from harm. wozza Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 Think its recommended mine run at 40psi according to the book at the rear think there on 41 now same with the fronts really i went with the manufacturers figures and they looked flat afterwards so i put some more in cause they really did look flat. Quote
hertsnminds Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 The thing with most cars is you just can't feel when something is wrong with the handling and by the time you can things are way out. The only car I have owned where you could tell almost instantly that the tyres were at the wrong pressures was a Fiat Barchetta. Communicated everything back to the driver really well. wozza Posted May 7, 2006 Posted May 7, 2006 I think the C4 is one of the most lifeless cars at communicating anything to the driver the feedback it offers is next to nothing compared to what my clio or my little cinquecento is like or my old Golf. They were all better behind the wheel especially the cinq and golf no power steering meant you felt near enough everything. Plus there just good fun cars anyways. Quote
ham's c4vts Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 Why buy the C4 then?mines not lifeless or lacking feed back, when i drove the 1.6 hdi that also wasnt lifeless or lacked feed back. Granted it was a bit softer and a bit more body roll. perhaps it maybe because its fairly quiet inside compaired to your cinquecento or Golf. Quote
wozza Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 Because I love my C4. Its just not quite as communicative as other cars are. And at the time the C4 was bought because it was one of the best looking nicer driving cars in my budget. Other cars i looked at in the same area meant i would have needed to cut down on gadgets and engine size etc. It just i dont think the C4 gives you much input through the wheel like the cinquecento wll scare the crap out of you on the limits. i just dont get that with the C4 its too comfortable the car doesnt seem to tell you its on the limits the same way which is why i had the back end out 1 time and had no idea it was going out until it went. Im used to it now and i know what will happen when i drive it hard just not the same kind of drive as my other cars were. Then again all my other cars were a lot more chuckable round corners. Quote
Stuey Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 mine is 9 months old and I havent looked ;) I am a bad man Quote
