Hi

Having paid out £2k for an autobox overhaul with 1 year warranty just over a year ago, the box is just starting to slip again.

This may be a daft question, but - would a manual replacement be possible?

Car is a 2007 model ( 2008/08 reg) mk 2 hatch exclusive auto petrol with AL4 box, 45k miles, max value about £3k, but don't want to scrap it. Difficult to find another car with such a good spec.

Any advice gratefully received

Thanks

Did it on a Merc, you need the pedal box, a flywheel, clutch, bell housing, release bearings and arm, clutch cable ETC. it is not worth the effort. Part ex it on a manual car if that is what you want. In the long run it is less hassle and no unexpected issues otherwise find a scrapper with the spec you want and buy the car. Take what you want and sell the rest.

Thanks for that. Just to give a bit more detail here

Firstly, I couldn't do any of this myself.

.

Box now slips on the first gear-change on a cold morning, then behaves perfectly. Based on my previous experience over the last 2 years, this will get worse.

A new auto box from Citroen would be £4k fitted (2011 price), and I wouldn't trust anything else

A second hand manual box would be a few hunderd pounds - add the clutch etc, say £1k for parts, £500 labour, maybe £2k total, allowing for complications

I would be prepared to pay this, as it's difficult/expensive to find a new car with equivalent spec. I don't want another old car- it would have less than a year old, ideally new. So the conversion would be a far cheaper option, and I get to keep the car I like

I just don't know where to start with this - would I need a Citroen garage to be involved? Are there computer aspects to this which would mean it coudn't be done after market? Main dealers are loath to touch this kind of project, so I would need to find someone with enough C5 knowledge and access to software to pull it off.

Anyone out there? Coastline?

if your going down that route youd just aswell to put a diesel lump in it. youl get a runner of ebay with everything you need on the donor car. just had a look and theres loads on there starting at 300. then youl get a few quid back for scrapping it. labour for the job should be 5 to 6 hundred.

If you decide to just convert your box over then youl need the parts that gman stated also possibly the driveshafts aswell. i wouldnt worry about the software side as the autobox has its own ecu so i would start by simply unpluging it and see what happens. If that dosnt work then its just a case of going into the ecu and telling it that its no longer a auto
