toblerone Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 Hey all, I was driving down the M62 today and heard a cracking sound, to my horror my rear o/s passenger door window had crazed. It then blew in, showering glass all over the back seat. I can only assume I picked up a stone chip and the stress caused the window to shatter, has this happened to anyone else? Also am I best going and claiming through my insurance and going somewhere like autoglass or going to my dealer? I rang up autoglass but they don't have the glass in stock at the moment and were not overly helpful on the phone. I've had a couple of quotes and they seem reasonable for the glass, but the fitting is astronomical!!! Any ideas will be gratefuly received!!! Cheers Quote
kfk Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 Its got to be cheaper to go through your glass specialist and just pay the excess......just make sure they replace/refit the door skin membrane correctly or you will have water leaks Quote
toblerone Posted May 8, 2006 Author Posted May 8, 2006 Thanks kfk, Autoglass do not have the glass in stock for 4 days, and have offered to come out and fit perspex as a temporary solution. Also worried using autoglass affect the warranty in any way, the call centre guy was pretty cagey when I asked him and not very helpful. I think i'm going to go with my local dealer, they're quote is only marginally more expensive than my excess and they can do it first thing tomorrow. Quote
