Trigg Posted May 8, 2003 Posted May 8, 2003 Has anyone else noticed that the 1.9D seems more thirsty when filled up with ESSO diesel. I've had no problems with Shell or Safeways diesel. Avereage consumption at the moment is sitting about 40-41mpg but this drops to 34-36mpg with ESSO diesel. What diesel is everybody using? Quote
AlanFC Posted May 8, 2003 Posted May 8, 2003 Honestjohn reckons Shell and Texaco is the best diesel fuel. We use shell in our PIcasso HDi and C3 HDi 16v and get slightly more mpg than other brands. These clever diesel fuel pumps cost around £1,500+ to replace. If HJ says this fuel is the best then damn the expense of a few extra pennies, thats what theyr'e going to have! Regards, AlanFC Quote
dadbif Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 I know this an old topic, but we are driving back to UK from Spain in our trusty 1.9D Berlingo, today I filled up with Esso diesel in France, and the fuel consumption has dropped considerably, I normally use Repsol and get good mileage, so there may be something in what was said earlier. Johndouglas Posted November 27, 2008 Posted November 27, 2008 I'm currently living in my caravan in southern Spain - hence I don't get on the internet every day. I towed my van with my C5 down here two weeks ago. For the 650 miles through France I filled up mainly at hypermarkets with their pump diesel. Price was the equivalent of 89p per litre and my average for the 650 miles was 27mpg. Once I was over the Spanish border I found that I could buy Repsol Optima for the equivalent of 81p per litre. I decided to try it. I continued to purchase the Optima at every fillup. In spite of Spain having more long hills for towing up, at the end of the next 650 miles the Spanish average had risen to 29.3mpg. It seems that better quality fuel does give a better performance.
