Hi guys...

I'm a member of quite a few forum marques and came across this site whilst searching on the net...

We've just bought a C8 2.2 HDi exclusive on a 2003 model year with 82k on the clock! We pick it up this week and I was wondering if I might ask the folks on here some questions please?

What should I be looking out for when I look round the car? What oil does this car use? I have loads of Mobil 1 0w-40 and Castrol EDGE 0w-30 in the garage! will this be okay for the car? Or do I need a 5w-40 with a low SAP?

Been reading about the cam belt issues and thought it might be an idea for me to change that with the water pump! is it a straight forward job or a main dealer one? I can see that the cars can suffer from problems with the DPF? I was thinking of adding some Archoil DPF cleaner to the tank? Any thoughts on this? Does the 2003 have an EGR valve and is it easy to get at to clean? also seen a fluid called Eolys fluid! Does the C8 use this and what type? I've never heard of it tbh...

Many thanks in advance for any help you can put my way...

Cheers

If you've got 82K on the clock and you don't know the history of the car then yes, get the belt changed fairly soon.   And it's a good idea to change the pump at the same time.   Also put a new auxilliary belt on it as well.   Whether or not you could do a belt change, would depend on your DIY skills and your comprehensive tool box.      It was reported on this forum a few years ago that some of your models had broken their cambelts and suffered serious engine damage.   If I remember correctly water from the windscreen was ending up over the engine.   If you use the search feature, you'll find the topic.

Being as you have a 2.2 then yes, you'll have a particle filter as well.   The 2ltr models didn't until late 2004.   The eolys fluid goes in a 5ltr tank that lays alongside the fuel tank on the opposite side to the filler neck.   There are two types of eolys, which type you need will depend on your build date.

Regarding the oil.   Ideally you need 5/40 API CF.

Many thanks indeed for your post and info. Well I've decided to go and buy the 806 2.2 exclusive on a 2004 plate with a 6 speed box. I'll be changing the belts on the car as I'm quite handy with the spanners and its a good excuse for me to use my new Snap-On tech-angle torque wrenches that I've just bought.

Thanks again for the info regarding the fluid. I've always owned Toyota's and VW's so never heard of this additive as I've either used 2T oil or Millers and Archoil products in the fuel system with Shell V-Power derv...

Eolys fluid - or if bought on ebay is called PAT fluid - comes in 5ltr refill kits.   Make sure you get the correct one.   Do a search on here for details of using the kit.   The eolys fluid is injected into the fuel tank by the car's ECU which works out how much diesel you've put in the tank.   Refilling the eolys tank is comparatively easy, but the ECU has to be reset so that it knows how much fluid is there.

The other alternative is to get rid of the particle filter altogether then you don't need any fluid.   Again the filter core is just knocked out of the box, but the ECU needs reprogramming so that it knows.   Mine has been done and it causes no problems.
