ham's c4vts Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 just found this on ebay for hdi models http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Citroen-diesel-tunin...1QQcmdZViewItem Quote
rikebo Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 Do these devices effect our warranty, insurance and economy much i wonder because 138bhp would be quite nice to play with!! Quote
wozza Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 Little more you can get a proper remap done around £80 more which does not affect warranty, and often gives you better MPG. but its a performance modification you do have to tell your insurance company with the remap its a little easier to hide unless they are specifically looking for it. A plug in box is a physcial thing a remap is just changing the standard engine management software. Does the same thing but a remap is usually better. But i know a few people that swear by these tuning boxes. You can usually expect better MPG, more power, Insurance will go up a little though. Quote
kfk Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 So who's told you remapping an ECU wont affect your warranty?......Citroen?....i dont think so. Quote
wozza Posted May 25, 2006 Posted May 25, 2006 Most other companies arent botheed by remaps infact some offer them inhouse. Citroen may be one that does not but most manufacturers now really arent too fussed by them and as i said offer them as optional upgrades. You can buy an Astra VXR now and have a new performance exhuast and a remap added as an option. You can get the thing stage 1 tuned to over 300bhp and its still completely under warranty everything covered. Volkswagon are fine with there cars being mapped and so are Fiat. Theres a few other manufacturers that offer tuning or dont let it affect warranty since a standard map on a car is usually to cope with many different things in different countries. Changing it for our fuel and the kind of climate we have here increases power but technically should not affect the warranty its only altering air fuel mix. Not replacing any other parts. And a few of the companies that do remaps state that it does not affect warranty and offer to cover any costs incured if problems do arise and these are trusted companies. Quote
ham's c4vts Posted May 26, 2006 Author Posted May 26, 2006 But thats the dealer offering a Factory upgrade pack, not a third party addition.i think i would stay clear until warranties have expired and your insurance has come down abit young man! :D   Quote
wozza Posted May 26, 2006 Posted May 26, 2006 Not actual factory thing. Mate of mine got Regal to remap his VXR and its under warranty. Quote
sammys hdi vts Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 Hi, Ive got a silver 05 C4 VTS, with the spoiler naturally, and was messing around on the net and found this! Now how about the power of the petrol VTS with the torque of a train! Love it. Got to find out a bit more on cost etc but looks like a £500 job, just got to speak to my dealer/ modifyier about the warranty first though. Anyone tried tweaking yet? Citroen C4 2.0 HDI136 bhp - 180 bhp, 320 Nm - 430 Nm RICA Chip tuning Quote
wozza Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 www.angeltuning.co.uk they will remap your stock ecu to similar figures but it's £300 and they come to your home to do it or work etc. Quote
kfk Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 www.angeltuning.co.uk they will remap your stock ecu to similar figures but it's £300 and they come to your home to do it or work etc. I ike this bit on there FAQ page: How will it affect my warranty? There is no change needed to any hardware for engine remapping. Therefore there should be no affect on your warranty. We have had an example where a customer had lowered his suspension and bottomed out causing his sump to crack. Within ¼ of a mile he had run the engine dry and destroyed the turbo too. The engine was completely replaced under warranty despite the fact that he had lowered the suspension too. Yeah...........right........but what about the remapping.......how does that affect your warranty?..........is it a deliberately misleading answer? Quote
sammys hdi vts Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 I have just spoken to my local dealer and also Citroen Uk, they say that any modification at all both physical and software will invalidate the warranty if the parts that go wrong can be traced back to the remapped ECU. Asked about whether they would recommend a remapping company in future (aka vauxhall astra has optional upgraded ECU apparently) they said no. So big risk, got knowledge that engines are pretty bullet proof these days, also know if they go wrong its big bucks. Fun = money!!! Think I will mull it over when Im driving down to somerset at the weekend from London. Quote
sammys hdi vts Posted June 15, 2006 Posted June 15, 2006 I've been messing around on an excel spreadsheet, found a company called www.celtictuning.co.uk, quoted me £360 to come to my place for an ecu remap to 138 - 180bhp and 236 - 308lb/ft. Maths seems to say that it should make the car do 62mph in 8.6 secs rather than 9.7 and will do 1000m in 29.6 rather than 30.9 seconds. Obviously its not the 0 - 62 that counts, its in gear drivability and with a 24% increase in performance that should make a difference. Spoke to Dad expecting me to stop being silly and keep the waranty safe, instead he said go for it, you only live once. Plus I want to make my C4 quicker than his Honda Civic 2.2cdti that he is getting in sept (boy that things goes, he was bouncing off the rev limiter the whole test drive with a big grin on his face!!!) Quote
wozza Posted June 15, 2006 Posted June 15, 2006 Do celtic offer a money back guarantee if you dont like it? As i know Angel tuning do, and the 173bhp they state for the C4 is the minimum increase you can expect. seen enough 115bhp fiat jtd motors with the 155remap produce over 170bhp when rolling roaded. You could also go for one of there packages which can include an enclosed filter exhuast etc and they then remap the engine for those parts specifically to produce even more power. Quote
sammys hdi vts Posted June 15, 2006 Posted June 15, 2006 yeah celtic do a free 14 day refund like angel. Just emailed angeltuning for a quote, looks like a carbon air filter might boost it up to 190bhp. Not sure if adding new filters is a good idea, bit obvious you have changed something on the car then and dont particularly want my garage to know! Quote
wozza Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 It will save you on servicing since they can not charge you for airfilter etc. And the CDA is guaranteed to give performance benefits not much but there is some. Most aftermarket inducton kits reduce performnce due to heat soak there enclosed in a carbon fibre box so heat does not affect them thus bigger incvreases in power and 190bhp sounds quite good especially with that much torque.
