algot Posted May 29, 2006 Posted May 29, 2006 I live in Greece and have bought a C4 Coupe. Except from other minor problems I have two others that the dealership says that they can not fix!! First, the brakes are squeeking when I back up and brake. Is this normal? Should the dealership fix this problem?? Does anyone have any data where citroen say that they will fix the brakes?? The answer from here was that "All C4 have the same problems......sorry dude" Second, when a passenger climbs out of the rear seat, the seat does not fold back to it's previous position. -Should'nt it?? Do you have the same problem?? Is it fixable?? I got the same answer from the dealership...."All C4 have the same problem....blah, blah, blah....... I don't want to make a fuss but we are talking about a BRAND NEW CAR !!! Thank you all for your help /pierre the greek C4 dude Quote
Mat Posted May 29, 2006 Posted May 29, 2006 Squeeky brakes: Mine squeek when driving forwards or backwards at low speeds. Apparently some C4s have a much louder noise when reversing and braking (informed by Citroen service manager). Mine are going to be looked at next Monday. Others on here have reported squeeling brakes in other threads. Folding passenger seat: I'm not sure i follow what you mean. The seat in its normal position looks like this: \_ .It folds forwards, and slides forwards: /_ .Then it should go back again to where it was: \_ . Are you getting yours getting stuck: |_ ? (Isnt ASCII art fun B) ) Or is it not sliding properly? Anyway, the excuse 'all C4s have that problem' should not be his excuse. If he admits its a problem, he should fix it, regardless of whether all C4s have the problem, or only your C4. Quote

It might be recognised that a vehicle suffers with a particular fault........ and a dealer may do all within its powers to affect a satisfactory repair. What you dont take into account is that only recently have parts become available to resolve the brake noise, and i hasten to add.....NOT ALL C4'S ARE AFFECTED BY IT.......some already have the modified parts! lab44 Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 Are you referring to the front passenger seat on the coupe? If so I have the same problem when passengers get out the seat doesnt go back to its original position without pulling it back (whereas on my friends Polo it automatically swings back). However I thought it was just me being stupid and not being able to work it out B) Quote

I agree that it is perfectly acceptable for the dealer to say "yes, there is a known fault on some C4s, we havent got a fix yet, but we'll have a look and see what we can do". To me that is all that can be asked of the dealer. To say "yes, its a problem all C4s have and we cant do anything about it" has the same meaning, but gets customers angry. (Now of course, this could be what Algot's dealer said, and has been mis-quoted)Of course, it works the other way too. If a C4 owner goes to a Citroen dealer and demands this that and the other is fixed, the dealer isnt going to being too happy to help. If the owner goes in and says "i have this problem, happens when i do this, can you have a look please", the dealer is going to be more likely to go the extra step to sort out the problem. Algot, please dont take this reply as a go against you. We have a lot of C4 owners on this forum, and KFK works for a Citroen dealer so is a very useful member of the group, as he sees everything from 'the other side'. Quote
hertsnminds Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 The answer from here was that "All C4 have the same problemsThis is where internet forums and owners clubs can come into their own as you will be able to find out within 24 hours if ALL of any car have the same issue. And if you don't have any other owners in your area you can always go and look at every used C4 your local dealers have for sale and see if they do ALL have the same issues. IanBlack 55 VTR+ Quote
algot Posted May 30, 2006 Author Posted May 30, 2006 The story is long.... After beeing not satisfied with the answers from dealership here in Greece, I went to the citroen website and filled out a form to get some answers. A second later, my inbox got an return of the email saying that the Greek email adress does not exist!! So I sent the same form to France. This morning a person from the general import here in Greece called me and sounded little disturbed that I contacted France.... However, he had read my message, he had spoken to the dealership personnel, and he still had not figured out what is the problem with the seat!! He has promised to get back to me when he has some answer..... I explained to him that 8 out of 10 times the seat does not fold back to its original position.....the question is....why does it work 2 out of 10 times?? (by the way it get s stuck like Mat says like this |_ .....to be continued....... Quote

I'm trying to work out the same question. My door wasnt shutting properly, but when i was 'demonstrating' to my Citroen dealer, it shut perfectly everytime. Drove home, got out, went to shut the door, and it clunked first time! Quote
wozza Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 Mat is this when your outside closing the door or inside? As there was an early issue with the door handle getting stuck open. Citroen had a fix for that a long time ago though. Quote

No, i had my passenger door fixed, when the outside handle kept getting stuck out. This is the drivers door (sometimes) makes a clunk noise when closing from outside. I've also noticed, though it may be unrelated, that i'm seeing the 'door open' indicator light on my dash more often. Quote
algot Posted May 31, 2006 Author Posted May 31, 2006 Mat ! I have the same problem on my door. The wind caught the door one day and blew it open, after that it does not align properly. The service people said that they aligned the door again.....but it does not shut like a MB door..... quality..... /algot Quote
Mat Posted May 31, 2006 Posted May 31, 2006 but it does not shut like a MB door..... What's an MB door? I park my car on my drive, which is a quite steep slope downwards. I too, have on occasion let the door get caught by the wind Quote
algot Posted May 31, 2006 Author Posted May 31, 2006 my parents drive Mercedes Benz..."MB" to get back to my folding seat problem......they just called me from the dealership saying that I am welcome to come and test the C4 seats they have in the showroom to verify that ALL C4's has this problem.... with other words.....the car seats are by me designed with inbuilt fault. Do all of you guys have the same problem with C4 Coupe? Does that not frustrate you?? Is there something I can do????? /please help algot Quote
Welshguy Posted May 31, 2006 Posted May 31, 2006 Do you have a Trading Standards agency in Greece? I would contact some sort of consumer watchdog and complain - no company can legally get away with telling you the product was designed with the fault, and thus "is a feature.." :P Quote
wozza Posted May 31, 2006 Posted May 31, 2006 My seats always go back exactly as they were left never had them go back differently. Quote

Citroen had a fix for that a long time ago though. Another thing I never knew - the passenger side door handle on my C4 occasionally gets stuck, although a quick hard press will sort it. Doesn't sound good though! Personally I want colour coded door handles like on the VTS - anybody got black ones and want to swap for plain plastic? :P Quote
wozza Posted May 31, 2006 Posted May 31, 2006 Shoulda got a VTR :-P Most of the stuff you get on the VTS is already there apart from a few cosmetic things and the lights. Most of the main stuff is there though. Although did notice the VTS was slightly lower than the VTR the other day when i was parked next to dave&trace vts and a few other subtle differences. Another thing you might not have noticed you dont have is the lower front splitter. Quote
Welshguy Posted May 31, 2006 Posted May 31, 2006 Yeah noticed that but haven't found one to buy yet (if I decide that I want one) - how much are they from Citroen? Quote
wozza Posted May 31, 2006 Posted May 31, 2006 probably ridiculous prices. Have a look on ebay see if there are any bumpers going i saw a VTR front bumper going for £35 the other day including the lower splitter bodyshop could probably spray it up for £60 or so and fitting shouldnt be too difficult. Although after just having a look the only one i could see was £60 and was missing the lower part. Quote
Welshguy Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 Just to confirm - the splitter is a seperate piece of bodywork to the bumper then? If it is then I guess it wouldn't be too pricey to get one from Citroen, although if I can find one on ebay then even better! Got any pix up close so I can see the detail on the splitter? A comparison pic would be even better :P Quote
