Mat Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 I could probably find this out by finding and reading my handbook, but as i'm at work it quicker to ask you guys: Today when i put my key in the ignition, rather than the radio starting, and the lights on the dash coming on (airbag, handbrake, etc), all i got was 'Economy mode' on the trip computer screen. It wasnt until i turned the key and started the engine that the radio and all came on. What's all that about then? Quote
hertsnminds Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 That's all about the car making sure it can start rather than letting you listen to the radio. If you leave lights or other eletrics on when the engine is off the car will go into economy mode (try to save the battery from going flat). The next time you start the engine economy mode is turned off so you can use all of the toys. IanBlack 55 VTR+ Quote
Welshguy Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 lol a very annoying feature when your washing the car with the stereo turned on, and then suddenly turning off and going into econ mode...GRRRR.... Quote
kfk Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 lol a very annoying feature when your washing the car with the stereo turned on, and then suddenly turning off and going into econ mode...GRRRR.... More annoying to have to bump start your car cos you flatened your battery Quote
Mat Posted June 5, 2006 Author Posted June 5, 2006 But i always leave the radio on. And i havent done anything different (that i am aware of) when parking the car. Quote
Stuey Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 if you start the enige for a couple of minutes then turn it off and carry on polishing ETC it shuts up for about another half hour annoying but handy feature take the rough with the smooth as they say Quote
Mat Posted June 5, 2006 Author Posted June 5, 2006 I remember now. When the bloke came to fit my windscreen he needed to see the milage, so i turned on the ignition, saw the milage, then took the key out. I guess that is what put it in economy mode. Quote
Stuey Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 it has to be on ignition for a while before it goes onto econmy...like if you are listening to the radio with the engine off... Quote
Stuey Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 leave the engine running for a couple of minutes, that will charge the battery again... Quote
Mat Posted June 5, 2006 Author Posted June 5, 2006 Its at Citroen. Hopefully i shall get it back tomorrow. At the mo, i have a 55 C3 1.4HDi Quote
bill03 Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 If it's like the Picasso you can have the Eco Mode time extended. I had mine extended to 90 mins on the Pic.I had to wait in a Ferry line for 2 hours and having to start the engine every 30mins to listen to the radio got on my ****!! Quote
kfk Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 The Eco mode will cut in from 30 minutes to as little as 2 minutes......theres got to be a reason for them deciding on this duration. Quote
wozza Posted June 5, 2006 Posted June 5, 2006 Before i would have possibly wanted it lengthening the time it cuts in but now i think if i were to leave my system on for 30 minutes at full pelt the battery would not last long. Quote
bill03 Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 The Eco mode will cut in from 30 minutes to as little as 2 minutes......theres got to be a reason for them deciding on this duration. So if we are sat in the car having a rest, picnic, cueing etc we "may" have to start the engine every 2 mins to keep the radio on??? Quote
Mat Posted June 6, 2006 Author Posted June 6, 2006 This all seems fair enough. The radio on draining the battery, so the car computer cuts in and saves some battery for starting the engine again. But i fail to see why it cut in on me. Whilst i don't ever turn off the radio, with the ignition off, the radio goes off. So i drive home, park on my drive, turn off my engine, get out and lock the car. Th next day i open the car for autoglass to put a new windscreen in. He wants to see the milage, so i put the key in the iginition, turn it to one click, the radio comes on, the dash comes up, and he writes down the milage. I then turn off the ignition, and later lock the car. Monday morning come, i unlock the car, put the key in the ignition, turn and 'Economy mode' comes up. The engine then starts fine on the 2nd click. Quote
hertsnminds Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 Doesn't take much for eco mode to kick in. Just load up the car for a trip to the tip, leaving the boot/door open for 5 to 10 minutes (interior lights on) and it happens. IanBlack 55 VTR+ Quote
Mat Posted June 6, 2006 Author Posted June 6, 2006 Well, i've got the car back from its Airbag recall. Citroen said there was nothing to worry about, but if it happens again to pop in and see them. It started up fine , so i'm not gonna loose any sleep over it Quote
