Mike5483 Posted June 17, 2006 Posted June 17, 2006 Hi all, Got my MP3 player all up and running this morning and have spent the rest of the day making a holder for it. I used some stiff plasticky packaging foam for the holder. I cut it to the shape of the small slide out cubby hole in the dash (under the airvent) on the drives side. Then, I decided on the best angle and cut a slot in the foam for the MP3 player, so that it is angled back (resting against the dash) and in towards the centre of the car, facing the driver. I then sprayed the foam black using Plastikote spray paint. I then had to get the cable in. I took the cubby hole drawer out and pulled the cable through from the radio to the cubby hole. I had to drill a 10mm hole on the back RH corner of the cubby drawer so I could get the cable and jack plug into the drawer. When the paint was dry, I put the foam in the cubby hole, stood the MP3 player in and then connected the cable to the player and hey presto, one home made MP3 holder. And the best bit is, when you get out, un-plug the Mp3 player, remove from holder, tuck cable and jack plug into drawer and slide into the dash. Works brilliantly!!! Quote
Mike5483 Posted June 17, 2006 Author Posted June 17, 2006 Ill try and get some pics up tomorrow. Im off to a BBQ in a bit!!! :D Quote
Mike5483 Posted June 18, 2006 Author Posted June 18, 2006 Heres some pics. May have to re-think the spray paint bit, because the paint is already starting to rub off the foam. May have to cover it with something. The MP3 player is a Sony NWA-3000. It doesnt move at all in the holder. Think an Ipod would work enven better cause the shape is easier to cut into the foam and there is a bigger distance between the bottom of the player and bottom of the scroll wheel. http://img123.imageshack.us/img123/6241/p61801602sv.jpghttp://img218.imageshack.us/img218/8736/p61801596gk.jpghttp://img218.imageshack.us/img218/6373/p61801560qr.jpghttp://img129.imageshack.us/img129/5752/p61801552cj.jpg Anyway, what do people think, not bad for an afternoons work. sammys hdi vts Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 Good work! Like the idea of running the cable to the drawer, getting my cable next week sometime so will have ago with my sony HD5, square and small so may need some tweaking! Quote
kfk Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 Mike, Did you use the Citroen supplied lead in the end or the Ebay One?......and did you try plugging it in to see if worked straight off or did you get the aux port activated?.......how much did they charge to activate it? Quote
Mike5483 Posted June 18, 2006 Author Posted June 18, 2006 I used the Citroen lead and got it enabled on Saturday. Cost the £36.70 they said it would. I did get two nice Citroen C6 books though!!! Quote
kfk Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 I used the Citroen lead and got it enabled on Saturday. Cost the £36.70 they said it would. I did get two nice Citroen C6 books though!!! I take it that was just labour (£36.70) Have you seen the price of a C6 :D Quote
Mike5483 Posted June 18, 2006 Author Posted June 18, 2006 Yeah, i cant afford one!!! My dealer is Hidsons Gravesend. I dont think they are getting the C6. its only certain dealers that can sell it. Is that right??? Yeah, just labour to do the lead. I pulled it into the glove box and left the player with them while they did it. Then I moved it again when I did me holder. Quote
kfk Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 Yup thats right, i've heard were getting one..........i hope they sell well, and hope everythings sorted. Quote
Mike5483 Posted June 18, 2006 Author Posted June 18, 2006 I hope it sells well to. But I cant help feeling that many people will shun it because its not a boring German car. It is just so different, it really deserves to do well. I dont know whats going on at Citroen lately but they are coming out with some cracking cars, I mean, the C2, C4 and C6 are all brilliant, the C3 is great (if you like that kind of thing) and the Picasso is still selling well. Which dealership do you work for??? Quote
Mat Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 That looks very good Mike. I hadn't thought of using the tray, but may consider changing my plans. Quote
Mike5483 Posted June 18, 2006 Author Posted June 18, 2006 Thanks. I dont like the shiney black paint!!! I think Ill cover it in something when I get chance. Quote
wozza Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 You guys seen the new picasso thats coming out in 2007? It looks so much nicer than the current model. Just hope citroen start offering some hotter models next year as the current competition seems to be going a bit more mental with power etc and well we all know BHP seems to sell cars. And the C6 is gorgeous loved it since i first saw photos of it. Some of the little things in it are just great the HUD etc. HOpe some of those things filter down to the next model C4 and C2 etc. And the MP3 player holder isnt too bad mate there is someone on the net that offers them as a clip on part that goes where the triangle section next to the headunit is though for those that dont wish to make there own. Just a case of clipping the triangle bit out takign couple screws out and mounting it with the same screws then replacing the triangle section of plastic. Quote
hertsnminds Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 If you have the Bluetooth module and a mobile phone that plays MP3's could you set up a wireless link???? IanBlack 55 VTR+ Quote
sammys hdi vts Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 Whats the link for the premade mp3 player attachment wozza? Interested to see what it looks like before I start drilling holes in my trays! Sorry to hear about you car, think your Dad owes you one! Quote
wozza Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 If you have the Bluetooth module and a mobile phone that plays MP3's could you set up a wireless link???? IanBlack 55 VTR+ Think that will depend on your phone to be honest. Cant work out a way to stream audio via bluetooth on mine anyways. Might work when paired up with a handsfree unit though. As it should use that as a speaker so if you start playing media it shoudl come through although best way would be just to try it and find out. And just went on the site where they had those holders it was a mobile phone holder but you could change it to hold other things like a TOM TOM etc they had various fitting kits. Unfortunately its for left hand drive versions only and has now been discontinued. Quote
Mat Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 Guys.When fitting the 9706ag, did you wire it up as: 7 - Red1 - White2 - Black or 11 - Black10 - Red4 - White Quote
Mike5483 Posted June 19, 2006 Author Posted June 19, 2006 Bottom one, it dont work if you connect up as per the top one. Quote
Mat Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 Bottom one, it dont work if you connect up as per the top one. Thanks - I'll try that one first. Quote
Mat Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 OK. Fitted black-11, red-10 and white-4. Would only fit into one of the two sockets on the back of the radio, so put it in that one. Now, with a CD in the slot, the 'SOURCE' button alternated between radio->CD->radio.... With no CD, the SOURCE button makes the radio go slient for a split second as if it is searching for another device, not finding one so returning to radio. Am i right in thinking, when the AUX socket is working, the SOURCE button goes radio->CD->MP3->radio->CD->.... ? Quote
Mike5483 Posted June 20, 2006 Author Posted June 20, 2006 Yeah, it goes as you say. Obviously you need to get it enabled at your dealers. I cant remember which slot its meant to go in. Mine could only go in one as I have the CD changer fitted. Quote
Mat Posted June 20, 2006 Posted June 20, 2006 My dealer said they werent sure if they had enabled it or not, as they have never done one before. They said to plug in the cable, and then call in if it doesnt work. Shall go in tomorrow (cycled to work today) and sit with them while they play with their laptop and my mp3 player. Quote
Mike5483 Posted June 20, 2006 Author Posted June 20, 2006 Youll know if they have enabled it because the screen will show 'Aux 1' and a picture of a Jack Plug. Thats what mine does anyway. Im a bit confused as to which Aux port the MP3 is connected to. Most say Aux 2, but mine is definately Aux 1, cause thats what is says. Aux 2 is what the CD changer is connected to. Quote
Mat Posted June 20, 2006 Posted June 20, 2006 I was curious, because when i have no CD in the drive, the source button doesnt 'rotate' to CD, and stays on Radio. Quote
