done 2,000 miles in car so far and one thing that has started to bug is the grinding of the reverse gear,

sometimes it drops straight in with no fuss, other times it grinds like hell and you have to force it in,got some glances in a multi storey car park today as it was having none of it.

Have read in other topics that the gearbox is not the smoothest but does anybody suffer from the same probs in reverse..

other than that well impressed with the mpg its up at 40.2 with an average speed of 29mph, leaving me quids in if down a bit on performance but cant have everything.................

I've noticed this, but i had it in my Saxo, so not really worried about it. Rather than force it into reverse, if i feel the resistance i put it in neutral, bring up the clutch pedal, then put it down again and put the gear stick into reverse. The resitance goes and it goes smoothly into reverse.

i get it as well if it refuses to go in just pull foot up from the clutch and put into nuetral and try again sometimes though it'll grind and theres nothing you can do happened a few times in mine.

Also get a slight click going into 3rd when I change to quickly if the revs are up around the 5500ish mark.

I asked the dealer about the crunchy reverse as well just said theres no syncro for reverse thats what causes it.

"I think" it mentions in manual somewhere that you must come to a stop, let revs drop, then put into gear. My VTS revs can sometimes take a time (e.g. 2secs) to drop to idle especially if you have come to a stop quick.

If your wheels are rolling forward this will also cause the gear box to crunch.

My olds Focus didnt mind rolling forward and whacking into reverse! Handy for quick turn arounds....

"If you cant find it, grind it!"

I only get this when starting up. Ie get into car, start engine in nuetral, put into reverse to get off drive, or reverse out of parking space.
