Welshguy Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 Dropped the car off this morning with the service garage - They will be fixing the sqeaky brakes problem that affects various C4's, as well as reparing the Engine Mount problem that has resurfaced after it was diagnosed and repaired about 2 months ago. lol You can't fault them for their service - I arrived at 7:40am and they dont even open till 8.30am, but the admin guy came straight out and went over the paperwork - read through the list of problems I'd reported...including my note to the techs - "BRAND NEW ALLOY WHEELS - TAKE EXTRA CARE" ;) :D Quote
Stuey Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 what where you doing up before 7am you nutter?? that is good of em though to put notes on about your wheels... Mine is in tommorow having new windscreen trim fitted and I will see if they want to cut me a deal on the wheels too Quote
IanHur Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 Engine Mount problem is that only with the diesel engine, if so what problem are you having? Quote
Welshguy Posted July 12, 2006 Author Posted July 12, 2006 Well I had a knocking noise from the engine and gearbox last time it went in - apparently it was due to a degraded engine mount. The problem has come bk, and yesterday when picking the car up I've now been told it is because something in/connected to the gearbox is catching on the exhaust so they have ordered some spacers? We shall see if it solves the problem - booked back in for the 27th. They are also going to look at my tappets as well...tick tick tick lol Quote
Stuey Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 that would be the same noise that I get, and the tappets do rattle a bit when it gets hot...they are going to rattle like a bugger when they get some serious mileage on em I reckon Quote
Welshguy Posted July 12, 2006 Author Posted July 12, 2006 They tick tick tick all the time m8! The garage did say they would look into them when I drop the car in on the 27th as they need to see what they are like from starting the engine cold. Makes no sense to me though as they had my car all day yesterday so the engine would have been cold after an hour of me dropping it off! Quote
Grumble Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 Does anyone have the Bulletin Number for the Squeaky Brake issue ? My delaer want to charge me £50 to clean them....no way on a less than year old C4 that had this issue since new. G Quote
Welshguy Posted July 24, 2006 Author Posted July 24, 2006 I dont sorry m8 - if I do have it then it'll be on the repair summary sheet from Citroen which is buried somewhere back at my place. (In work atm). I've had the brake issue undertaken, and since then I still experience occassional sqeaking. Annoying but not critical. The car is going in this Thursday for the engine/gearbox issues, although I'm now told it is to do with the exhaust. We shall see! Quote
Grumble Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 Car went into dealer this morniing....shiney new rear calipers fitted. All these recalls must be costing Citroen a fortune G Quote
Z3M Roadster Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 My brakes squeaked from the day I got the car and was was told that there was nothing they could do, they cleaned them to no avail. At 35k when all the wheels were replaced they also replaced the discs and pads, within 2k miles they are squeaking again and still do. Is the engine mount replacement a recall? and if so which engines does it affect? Just wait til your cars reach 40k miles, all sorts of bits start to drop off! Quote
Ciaran2903 Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 Just wait til your cars reach 40k miles, all sorts of bits start to drop off! Are you basing that on your C4? or other cars that you have owned? Because cars do not hit a certain mileage (in this case 40K) and then "all sorts of bits start to drop off!" My car has an extended warranty (cant remember the amount of extra years) and the mileage limit is 120,000 miles, not 40K! There are things in this world that ARE designed not to last, but the manufactures are clever enough NOT to have the warranty cover that period! Car companies are not stupid! If their cars did what you say, then there is no way that they would offer a warranty that would exceed the "magic mileage" when they become rubbish! I think that quote is rubbish!! Anyone here, other that Z3M Roadster, have a C4 that has passed 40K?Have bits "started to fall off it"?? It would be interesting to see the results! Quote
trypodz Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 Mine is booked in for tomorrow also ...after the last fiasco they are driving 20 miles to where I work to pick it up.....and hopefully return it Ha Ha..........all because they cannot get the service light so stop lighting everytime I drive the car. I have added a few more probs since reading some posts on this site ....parking sensor display and the mirrors dipping when selecting reverse. Will post back if they get either of them working Quote
Z3M Roadster Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 I am basing that on my own C4, to date the badges have dropped off the back, the trim inside the tailgate to which the parcel shelf retaining cords attach have both fallen off and now there are some clips rattling around inside the bootlid and both sides of the windscreen trim. Seems like rather a few things to me! I have never had the pleasure of owning a self dismantling car before the c4 and have had quite a number of cars. Quote

wozza Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 See looking at some of your problems makes me think someone who didnt know what they were doing took those trims off and broke the clips. I have had mine on and off a good few times now broken a couple clips but sorted it again and even with an 800w RMS sub thumping in the boot i dont get any rattles from them and i have removed them quite a few times due to changing spoiler then changing back then changing again etc due to it being ripped off by some chav ***oops***. FOr those wondering what the word after chav was started in C and ended in T. Cant stand chavs especially when they wreck something of mine anger GRR! I can only think of one good reason to destroy my spoiler and that would be repeatedly smashing it into face repeatedly. I dont have an anger problem honest! Quote
Ciaran2903 Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 I have added a few more probs since reading some posts on this site ....parking sensor display and the mirrors dipping when selecting reverse. Thats no problem my friend! That was something that the VTS owners were wondering why that didnt happen, because in the manual it says that this should happen to aid reversing! (seems to me there are admitting that there mirrors are crap! :o ) Quote
Z3M Roadster Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 My mirrors are not self dipping as I do not have a VTS. However they do not move at all, you can hear the motors whirring away but the glass stays in the same place until you give it a firm push with your finger. Another flaw to add to the list Quote

Another flaw to add to the listAre you sure you are not a troll sent in by Ford, as you seem to have had a lot of problems  I guess company car drivers just drive their cars to destruction. :o Quote
Z3M Roadster Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 I think it is typical Citroen build quality, but refused to listen to this when I chose it from my company car list as it appeared to be good for tax purposes and had excellent reviews. I can concur it is excellent on tax but the reviews were a little off the mark. I agree that I do like the styling, just a shame that the car is incredibly badly put together. As for driving it to destruction, I am not that fussed about driving it hard as it is by no means fast and I have a 321bhp BMW Z3 to do that in at the weekends. The computer is showing around 50mpg and the exterior and wheels are unmarked bar a few stone chips. I am however on my 5th windscreen. They randomly crack. I was told by Citroen in Islington that this is a known fault and windscreens should only be fitted by Citroen dealers and not RAC Autoglass who my company has an account with, convenient eh?! Quote
C4VTS Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 and windscreens should only be fitted by Citroen dealers and not RAC Autoglass who my company has an account with, convenient eh?! I had a windscreen replaced on my Audi A4, and it was done in semi-darkness. The fitter was absolutely hopeless, and it was obvious he had never done an Audi before, if any car at all ! and he even scratched the paintwork on drivers side door pillar. Just hope I never need a windscreen on the C4. Quote
wozza Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 See your the only person i know who has so much problems with build quality. Rest of us had the odd little rattle thats about it. Makes me think you basically got a lemon and if it was such a bad example why not refuse the car and get them to get you another one? 1st revisions of cars are never gonna be great its a known fact they all have issues doesnt matter who makes them. Merc, audi, etc have all released brand new cars to then recall them for various problems. As i said in another thread i have spoken to bmw owners who were seriously dissapointed with there cars as they had rattles and breakdowns and the dealers could not even fix a rattle. Quote
kfk Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 In my experience the build quality of the C4 isnt that bad, very few come in with bits fallen off and most owners are very satisfied with the vehicle. We have several C4's out there with high mileage...... Brake noises and suspension units squeaking are a source of iritation. I'm glad to say that fixes are available and we can at least contact the owners to resolve these issues. Unfortunately, when you have cars of such mileage they are subjected to a pretty hard life.....the UK roads arn't very forgiving. For a vehicle that hasnt been around too long its proving to be reliable, we dont have rows of them parked outside waiting for spares, we dont dread the owners coming in, and the technicians are happy working on them.....thats always a good sign! Theres always someone out there thats going to be disatisfied and will have had more faults than considered acceptable.......and thats with any manufacturer. Quote
Z3M Roadster Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 I wouldn't mind so much if the dealers were actually helpful. I have now tried 5 main dealers in London and Essex. None have done what I have asked of them and most of the time the car comes back with none of the problems fixed. I always ring in advance and describe all of the problems so that the parts can be ordered in advance, every time I go to pick the car up they want to book another appointment to fix something which I have already forewarned them about. It is as if they don't know what they are doing and I am banging my head against a brick wall. Unfortunately I didn't have the option to refuse the car as it is a company owned vehicle and the head of our transport department knows little about cars and couldn't give a toss. Quote
