mrmagoo1979 Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 Hi, I drive an S reg xsara 1.9 TD When I lock the car with the central locking key fob the alarm sounds after about two minutes every single time. I have to lock the car with the key as this does not arm the alarm. I have taken it to a garage who told me they had fixed it but guess what not a chance.I asked them to just disconnect the alarm but they dont seem to know how to.Can any1 help, I can not even see the alarm housing let alone disconnect it so can anybody please help? Many thanks, Matt Quote
kfk Posted July 27, 2006 Posted July 27, 2006 Usual problems with alarms are either bonnet swiches, located on the bonnet catch or the interior ultrasonic sensers. To isolate the ultrasonic sensors and see if there at fault you could try the following: on the dash there will be a switch with a picture of a siren with a big cross on it. With the ignition off and before you get out of the car, depress the button for about 5 seconds. Pressing the button tells the alarm computer you want to arm the alarm but not have the ultrasonic sensors working (allows you to leave an animal in the vehicle for instance). Having depressed the button for the required time you willfind that the alarm LED will come on and stay on. Exit the vehicle and lock the car with the remote control. If the alarm still has the same fault it isnt the ultrasonics causing the problem......if the problem is cured by doing this you need a new pair of sensors (or you might want to try disconnecting them). To isolate the bonnet switch catch from the problem disconnect it.....the connector is somewhere under the front grill bt the headlamp.....cant remember what side but its the only electrical onnection to the bonnet catch. You might find that upon disconnecting the bonnet switch or ultrasonic sensors that the alarm gives a 'chirp' when you arm it......this is normal , its telling you somethings disconnected. Obviously the above assumes its a citroen alarm Quote

ferrarifan2000 Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 Hi I had this problem whilst under warranty Yhey rplaceda ll the sensors internal and external and it never stopped the problem Eventually the faults was traced to the central locking system. The tailgate wasnt locking properly and was foling the car to thinking it was being broken into when the circuit failed. They fitted a new boot lock and some of the door locks and it was all fine after that. One indication of boot failure is its ability to unlock on the move and every time you go over a bump the watning bleeps that the door is open. (Not always thought) It took Citroen 3 months to figure the problem out so I would eliminate these first Good luck Quote
