C5 2.2hdi sx, 51 reg., done 44000miles, regularly serviced.

Fault first noticed when towing my caravan up a hill and if the EBD fault shows, which it mostly does, then I lose speed and with the caravan on tow I sometimes doubt if I will make it up a slope let alone a hill.

The fault also occurs without the caravan if I accelerate when going uphill and triggers between 48 - 55 mph.

I have taken the car to a well respected non franchise Citroen garage and the computer initially indicated a turbo solenoid fault and the solenoid and pressure sensor were replaced. This did not cure the fault. He tried swopping air filters with another 2.2hdi but this had no effect.

He took the car to a franchised Citroen dealer as he hoped their computer would be more capable than his. They had it for a week and for most of that time they were baffled. They then retuned saying they had solved the problem by installing another vacuum control to the turbo and had extensively tested it and it was OK. Drving home I came to my one and only hill, cursed myself, dropped speed to 40mph and then accelerated, as I reached 50mph the fault was triggered.

I informed my garage and the best he can find out is that they removed the vacuum before returning the car. He has since installed this modification and tested it himself and it does not work.

I have contacted Citroen UK but they say they can only help if talking to a franchised dealer.

Help please.

I had the same problem with my c5 2.2: the antipollution alarm and the ebs fault where on. In this condition the computer sets the max engine speed to 2200 tr/min. After long troubles ( more than a month) the citroen was able to fix the problem, it was a pipe boken in the intercooler. In this condition a pressure sensor reads the wrong air pressure and the main computer gives the antipollution alarm. Check carefully the intercooler pipes (in my car was broken a small rubber pipe having a cost of few penny).

ive got a 2001/y 2.2 and it came up with the same fault, itookn it it a main dealer not frachise. the told me i needed new fuel pump, regulator and particle filter in the exhaust a total of £1500. itook it to a local garage of citroen trained mechanics he change the electric fuel pump in the tank and topped up the diesel additive (elios) i think thats the write name for it and the fault has slowly gone away

hope this helps

Its Eolys fluid. It's an an additive derived from Cerium that is mixed in with the fuel which assists in the elimination of particulates.

THe additive properties lower the boiling point of the particulates so that they are atomised much more readily.

I had a similar problem, my dealer changed the ECU but it made no difference (they did not charge me). They eventually cured the fault by rerouting the turbo vacuum pipe to a place closer to the vacuum source. I have had no problems since then except that the car seems to use more fuel.....it might be my driving though. They thought it could be a very fine crack in the pipes somewhere.

Hello, i had a similar fault, mine said asr fault, antipollution fault and went into limp home mode, I also had immobiliser fault and I have cured it myself.

My 2.2 hdi C5 estate 2002 went to the main dealers (Slaters of Abergele) and there was no fault in the computer at all, and I must praise them cos they put it on the computer spent just over an hour re-writing the fuel ecu and charged me absolutely nothing.

In the end I changed the remote fob battery and that solved nothing, I at least hoped it would cure the immobiliser fault. It all boiled down to changing the car battery under the bonnet. I paid £98 for a Calcium battery from Halfords with a 4 year warranty and no faults have arrisen whatsoever. This is now 4 days on and the car starts better now than ever before, it even sounds slightly different when it starts up.

I would say to you all that its worth while having a free battery check and seeing if most other faults occur just for that reason.

Maybe a tell tale sign that your battery is not 100% is when Traffic master speaks to you on re-starting your engine up a few seconds after turning it off, mine did this before I changed the battery and has not done it since the changeover, another sign was my taxi radio would tunr itself off on starting the car as if I had turned it off and back on again.

I hope changing the battery @ £98 would be a better option than paying some of the bills I have seen mentioned on here and still not curing the faults.

Doubt it, mine's being doing that for 3 1/2 years/55k miles. I think the battery would have died well before now if that were the case. Pressing the Traffic Master button shuts it up.

It would be interesting if you were to measure the voltage at the cigarette lighter output.

My BX had slightly tired and corroded +ve and earth straps from the battery, resulting in poor charging and less than ideal cranking speed. Changing both straps made a big difference.

I noticed the fault when I measured the cig lighter voltage and then checked several days later on the battery, noticed a discrepancy and then checked back to back thus finding the fault.

If the main straps are going high resistance not only will the voltage be lower but spikes from the electrically driven hydraulic pump are more likely to cause problems with the myriad of sensors the C5 runs on.

Well now i have a brand new battery in place the Traffic Master has not murmered a single peep.

Just to follow up my problem has now re-appeared on day 5 of the new battery, going down the dual carriageway minding my own business doing a steady speed in 5th gear and yes you guessed it, the dreaded fault appeared again, asr/ebd and antipollution fault.

And tends to do it when the garage is closed, they said bring it back one day when the light is still lit but we all know that when you stop the engine and re-start it then the limp home mode resets and it just leaves the engine management light and service light lit, it has never registered a fault in the computer since I had my particulate filter replaced.
