ifigureditout Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 Hi there, i'm a brand new member and its been suprisingly hard to find a c4 forum. Well i currently own a Renault (Rubbish) clio but due to an uninsured driver smashing into it, and a new job with more funds im looking for a change, and i'm really wanting a citroen c4 petrol vts 180. However there are a few little things that i was wondering about: whats the performance like? i'm used to my little clio and have test drove a clio 182 and that was amazing however insurance and day to day comfort just isnt there. I am not after a super quick car and i can see that the c4 vts is 2 secs slower to 60, but i want a car that pulls and feels like you have some power in any gear. What is it like on motorways, if you need to overtake does it just pull nicely rather than having to hammer it. whats it like driving in different environments? town, country, motorway etc... basically the choice is between three cars and theres pros and cons for all of them. Renaultsport clio 182 - pros - ridiculously quick and fun, know and love clios handling and looks, even if it is a tiny car.cons - 2.5 times higher insurance than the c4, doesnt strike me as a comfortable long distance ride. Alfa Romeo 147 T lusso 2.0 3door -pros - beatiful car, with red leather interior it looks amazing, beautifully styled.cons - RELIABILITY, seems like it is going to go wrong all the time, only 150bhp and 0 - 60 in 9.3 seconds, slower car than it looks. Citroen C4 vts 180 -pros - looks amazing, would love to hear from people with the leather interior and panoramic sunroof, reasonable performance figures, on paper. seems like an awful lot of gadgets for the money, compared to what your getting on the others.cons - unsure about reliability and dealer service, performance, and as much as i love all those gadgets, just worried theres more to go wrong. whats the economy like? would appreciate some feedback. thanks in advance, Josh Quote
welshys90 Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 well i can give u this i have a VTR+ and itll beat most away from a standstill at lights except some 600cc superbikes but u need to be freakishly fast or have the motorcyclist not try, in most gears it feels as if u have power however if u want it 2 go like a cat with acid on its tail u have to ever so slightly drop the clutch sometimes even less and its by far fast enough on the motor way, i think its 119 the VTR+ is on paper for the top speed but u can get it 2 125 no problem i reckon 130ish down a hill but then am not exactly a big guy so theres no weight in it when i do idiotic things and as for the breaks wel... u have to catch your eye balls if u hit them hard enough and if thats the VTR+ i reckon the VTS would b like ***oops*** off a shovel Quote
ifigureditout Posted August 11, 2006 Author Posted August 11, 2006 so in that case what do you reckon the petrol vts is pushing out? i am very sceptical of manufacturers performance figures. Quote
welshys90 Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 well for the 143bhp one it says on the paper it could hit 129 but i reckon with a bit of a push u could hit 140 tops but i dunno how petrol cars are because ive only ever driven diesel but i reckon with a wee bit of a push u could get it 2 140 because the paper number on the speed is always slower than it is so they dont get sued if some guy cant get his 2 that speed they make sure its in a bracket that can be pushed 2, the 110 petrol is top speed on paper of 121 i reckon about 135ish maybe i dunno not sure, ask one of the guys that drives one whereas the 180 version i dont have a clue ave not sn any the paper work for it Quote
welshys90 Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 but i do know that the diesel is really good on fuel i drove to stirling and back which is roughly 60/70 miles each way with a full tank of fuel and i think its sitting around half you get about 300/400 miles per tank of petrol and am not very light footed especially gettin from a 30 mph to a 70 i tend to boot it so im at 90 in no time, ask sammi_hdi_vts he drives the diesel version of the VTS and lookin up stats on the VTS 180 i reckon about 145/150 it says its top speed is 141 and its normally about 10 over but then again it is citroen they do things differently just to be different Quote
ifigureditout Posted August 11, 2006 Author Posted August 11, 2006 lol just went on the citroen website to see and ask whether these performance figures looked fair but they seem to have forgot they sell a 180bhp vts Citroen Performance Figures, Click Here Quote
C4VTRhdi Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 Personally id go for the C4 hdi Vts, miles better fuel economy, great midrange pull, plus you can remap it to 165bhp from 136bhp and torque 237lbs/ft to 270lbs/ft. I have the more modest 110bhp hdi vtr and find that much punchier and satisfying than the last petrol car i had which claimed to have a faster 0 to 60, but as we all know its not always about 0-60 as we dont drive like this day in day out. Quote
welshys90 Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 yeh i had noticed that i had to go onto What car? to find the stats for the VTS 180 and i agree with C4VTRhdi the 110 is more than enough for wot i need however if you have very foolish friends i would suggest puttin duck tape or black tape over the esp off button because my friends decided 2 turn it off for me last nite and well goin round a roundabout at a gd 30-40mph wen the tail slides out and then u realise ur esp is off well lets just say the car wasnt the only thing that left skid marks Quote
ifigureditout Posted August 11, 2006 Author Posted August 11, 2006 oh yeah i realise that. i dont know tho, just the sound of a diesel is so offputting for me. i'm still a young guy and bare in mind im also considering a clio 182 i jst dont think i could go with a diesel. Quote
ifigureditout Posted August 11, 2006 Author Posted August 11, 2006 the diesel is 1.5 secs slower to 60 and i know its not all about 0 - 60 but its that diesel soundtrack along the way, its slower at the top end too plus i hear the diesel version lacks some of the little styling extras the petrol one has. Quote
welshys90 Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 well im 17 and its the diesel model i drive and with the JBL speakers i dont really hear the engine, so i dont mind just hit it to 11 slam on something loud and who cares wot the engine is doin as long its doin its work, and the 0-60 is alot faster than it says on paper its got alot more torque and pull than it has on paper and if the petrol one has more then hell id like 2 have a go and as for the little styling extras well theres not much the petrol has that the diesel doesnt have if theres anything at all Quote
C4VTRhdi Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 I think the petrol and diesel both have there merits. If you can afford the fuel costs and you prefer petrol then there is no reason to consider anything else. Just as long as its a C4. What kind of money are they selling the vts for after the cashback? Quote
welshys90 Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 i dont actually not bothered lookin im to happyin havin fun with my VTR+ and ave just got that 3ish days ago so ive no reason to look at the other models just now Quote
ifigureditout Posted August 11, 2006 Author Posted August 11, 2006 anyway, whats the dealers and reliability like? how good is that jbl system, worth getting? Quote
welshys90 Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 the JBL System? its pretty much like home theatre it really is worth the extra money and once it gets to about 15ish it gets LOUD!!! and it goes 2 30 i think it is, it is worth the money, as for dealers i dont know i prefer to let my dad to take the car in because its easier for me because he can explain things better, as for reliability ive not had any problems with it so far except from my seats in the back split 40/60 and the 60 side wont come down so i need to go get the lock clip thing sorted but its nothing im desperately needing done the only thing is if you get the JBL system u cant get the blue tooth system for the car Quote
ifigureditout Posted August 11, 2006 Author Posted August 11, 2006 well a petrol vts loaded with the jbl system, panoramic sunroof, black perlescent and full leather interior is £16,820 after cashback (£3000) deducted. lot of car for that money i think. nothing seems to come near it for that price new. if i could find one that spec i would buy used i think but not too bothered about buying new at that price Quote
welshys90 Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 is that for the 180 version or the 143bhp? also the JBL system has a 8" subwoofer (i think its 8") in the boot which gives your music a good kick and i would suggest a song called Breathe by prodigy to test out your speakers make sure theyre all tight but your definately heard before seen when you have jbl in your c4 :D Quote
ifigureditout Posted August 11, 2006 Author Posted August 11, 2006 love that song!!!! awesome driving song! yeah thats the 180bhp one Quote
welshys90 Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 anything thats prodigy really just tests the speakers some heavier songs like heavy metal etc does it as well but it lets u hear if any speakers are loose and its just a screwdriver job to tightening them Quote
C4VTRhdi Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 Thats a good price, but ive just been on autotrader and the vts seems to start around £10000 used which is a complete steal! There is a black one on ther with half leather but no sunroof for £10000. Quote
welshys90 Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 well with aircon i wouldnt really care about a sun roof just burns the bald patch if you have one :D and the aircon (if it works) is great anyway Quote
ifigureditout Posted August 11, 2006 Author Posted August 11, 2006 thats not bad at all. i think though, its probably the only car out there that i wouldnt feel like i was throwing money away plus i could get it to my exact spec without having to compromise, if the exact one i want comes up for sale used its mine lol!!! by the way, does anyone have the panoramic sunroof on here? Quote
ifigureditout Posted August 11, 2006 Author Posted August 11, 2006 its more about letting the light in tbh lol Quote
welshys90 Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 well i suppose! i cant say ive sn one with panoramic sunroof either, Glasgows been deprived of such joyus things lol Quote
