Ciaran2903 Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 hes also uninsured, and it means i have now already spent 1500 on fixing my car, my first car, the first car i saved so much to buy and the car i pay 1850 a year insurance whilst the other guy pays nothing It's disgraceful is'nt it! Really makes you angry  Quote
Z3M Roadster Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 ....and the 0-60 is alot faster than it says on paper its got alot more torque and pull than it has on paper I seriously doubt that, why would a manufacturer under quote its cars performance figures. If you put the car on a rolling road I would put money on it not actually having as much bhp as quoted on paper. Bearing in mind the bhp on paper is bhp at the flywheel and not at the wheels. As for a 1600cc diesel doing much more than 115mph, again I doubt it. Perhaps down a seriously steep hill with a tail wind. If you like to do traffic light grand prixs you will probably want a petrol, however if you do a lot of motorway miles and like more torque and acceleration through the gears then probably best to go for a diesel. Personally if I were in the market for a hot hatch, I am sorry to say I'd buy the 182/197 Cup/Trophy. Quote
ifigureditout Posted August 17, 2006 Author Posted August 17, 2006 already said the insurance on a 182 is ridiculous. plus already got a clio and fancy a change. Quote

Personally if I were in the market for a hot hatch, I am sorry to say I'd buy the 182/197 Cup/Trophy. Clio 182 has been quoted as a 0-60 of 7.1 yet EVO tested them best they managed was 6.3 notice nearly a second difference also seen them going down pod standard and getting similar output. Rolling roads are not accurate they can over and under read and even things like tyre pressures can alter the reading or if you changed wheel sizes etc. Remember the at the fly figure on a rolling road is basically just a guess you usually get 2 readouts 1 with at the wheels power it then basically has a good guess which is why they let them spin down on there own this helps to work out the transmission losses. WHich vary FWD usually lose 12 - 15% typically some do lose more. RWD is 17 - 20% and AWD can be 25%+ so if a clio produces 166bhp at the wheels its put the atf figure just about right at 185bhp. Even how an engine is broken in affects power engines driven harder from new usually put more power down than those broken in over a few thousand miles. A lot of manufacturers underquote there figures too. Good example is the 106GTI and SaxoVTS Both cars are near enough identical same engine same weight etc etc. Yet 1 on paper does 60 a second faster. The reason being citroen quoted there 0-60 with 1 person and just a small amount of fuel the 106 was quoted with 2 people 1/2 tank of fuel and some luggage. Which is the reason the 106 is 1 group lower insurance wise so more appealing to younger drivers. Fiat do it as well there 1.4 engines Always produce more than there supposed to. there 1.8's which are supposed to be 130 i have never seen one rolling road with less than 140. Many manufacturers do it to keep insurance groupings down. If i was in the market for a hot hatch though Clio RS would be up there and the new mazda as well as the new grand punto abarth thats coming out soon theres one before that coming out with 220bhp though. Mike5483 Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 my point exactly that is an "experience" i just want to clarify that my accident, i couldn't have done anything about it. i was coming up a road at 30 and saw a car waiting to pull out but it was my rite of way, i checked to make sure he wasnt pulling out and he didnt then when i got upto it he just pulled out and didnt see me and went into me. he was a young driver, like i said there are some stupid ones about but im not. hes also uninsured, and it means i have now already spent 1500 on fixing my car, my first car, the first car i saved so much to buy and the car i pay 1850 a year insurance whilst the other guy pays nothing Id start thinking about dragging him through the small claims court. I can think of alot of things that i could drag someone like that through, and they are not as pretty as small claims court! :o Quote
ifigureditout Posted August 17, 2006 Author Posted August 17, 2006 i'm claiming through the motor insurers bereau with a solicitor thanks to my legal cover (£16 well spent, the only bit of my insurance policy thats any good) but he says they take so long so it could be another year till i get the money. police cant even tell me if their prosecuting him. if they do it will be a one yr ban and £40 fine which wont even stop him driving. hertsnminds Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 I have always thought that the best punishment for anyone who steals or trashes your car is that they are made to pay your next years insurance premium (or maybe as many years as it takes to get your full no claims back). You are in an accident that is not your fault and you get penalised with a higher premium and a reduction in your no claims. How is that fair? On another point, insurers in other countries e.g. The Netherlands base premiums on the cost of replacing the car, the actual cost to the insurance company. Not some complicated calculation based upon the drivers age, gender and the cars desirability. So a £4,000 used Porsche can cost less to insure than a £5,000 Kia Picanto. IanBlack 55 VTR+ Quote
Welshguy Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 I found the passenger side damp one day, not due to having the windows down (maybe aircon? only happened once), and was very worried about any smells that may pop up! Obviously there was not enough water to cause anything smelly! This happened to me this morning - woke up and the gf went to start the car..and found that we'd (!) left the passenger window wide open..and overnight we had a torrential downpour..nice pool of water in the rear footwell. I've just driven to work with the heaters on full and a towel in the back! Thankfully no electrics have been touched. No smell yet..but if one does surface...any ideas on how to shift it? Quote

We just had to live with it till we moved dorms! :o I dont know any DIY fixes, but if it does occur and you cant get rid of it, i am sure that a valet company could get rid of it........ at a cost. C4VTS Posted August 19, 2006 Posted August 19, 2006 I had a good result with the dealer and open window issue. They fitted the 9706AG cable that allows me to play an Ipod or anything else via the standard radio FOC, but the salesman always said he would pay for it anyway when I bought the car ;) The dealer has never fitted one before and they did a good job :D I must say that my Ipod Mini sounds great on the standard speakers. :D Quote
wozza Posted August 20, 2006 Posted August 20, 2006 Those speakers sound a whole lot better on an aftermarket unit i was quite surprised at the difference when i got my new headunit. Speakers sound good for a reason if you know you audio taking the doors on the C4 apart reveals why they sound rather good though just the way they are built into the doors makes a big difference. Not bad on getting the 9706ag fitted for free though always nice getting freebies. Had to go buy some new airfreshners today £10.53 they cost me for 2! Not cheap anyways. Quite happy getting my body work quote though so that made up for it hes not charging me anything to do my A and B pillars. only the scratch and side mouldings. Quote
Stuey Posted August 20, 2006 Posted August 20, 2006 I want some sound deadening in the doors as they rattle like buggers when playing quite heavy bass tunes...Euphoria Classics+10 on volume control=massive vibrations in the doors :P Quote
wozza Posted August 20, 2006 Posted August 20, 2006 Need to put some sound deadning in my own car just dont have the money to at the moment its going on the body repairs / colour coding. Do need to find someway of securing the boot trim though not sure what the best way to go about doing it is yet and well i have been too lazy to be bothered messing with it. Quote
Stuey Posted August 20, 2006 Posted August 20, 2006 all you need is gods own repair kit...gaffa tape :P Quote
