cardi Posted September 3, 2006 Posted September 3, 2006 After changing my fuel filter I now find that the engine has to turn over dozens of times before it fires. Previously it just fired immediately. Any ideas? Quote
kfk Posted September 3, 2006 Posted September 3, 2006 I assume you have bled the filter housing? You dont say how old the bx is or whether its the lucas filter with the punger in the filter head, or the later type where the plastic top of the filter is held on with 4 allen screws. if its the one with the plastic top and 4 screws it isnt unussual for the lid to be distorted an draw in air.......of course the other thing to ask is whether the seal is good on the filter. cardi Posted September 4, 2006 Author Posted September 4, 2006 Thanks for the quick reply. I took the car out last night and it kept cutting out so it must be sucking in air. The pump and filter are Bosch. The filter is inside the canister which has internal rubber seals and a seal to the filter holder top. The bleed plunger does not seem to be building up any pressure so I will look there for the leak. The manual does not say that any bleed screws need to be opened so the pump must be self bleeding. cardi Posted September 4, 2006 Author Posted September 4, 2006 Fault discovered. Torn diaphragm in filter housing. None in scrapyard so £34 ouch! Quote
