stevetheroad Posted August 17, 2013 Posted August 17, 2013 Hi , yesterday morning driveing to essex from north wales in heavy rain, I managed to drive through some flood water, probally shouldnt have but was under pressure to get south due to a family member in hospital. Anyway got through the small flood with some coughing and spluttering, some blue smoke, alot of cursing and kicking myself. Soon cleared up and I carried on doing another 140 miles but with the acceleration being not quite what it was before the flood. Car seems to be running fine apart from the acceleration, its as if the timeings out, apply light pressure on the pedal and it will go ok, soon as I put the pedal to the floor, nothing happens or very little response, the car is still useable but I've obviously done some damage, today the yellow engine warning light came on but as I dont have a manual handy, have no idea what it represents, got to travel back to north wales tomorrow, not sure if its going to make it or not, any help or advice would be greatly appreciated , thank you Quote
THOMASROBLOT Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 hello from south of france. yesterday we also had some rain....today it is very hot.... for you problem you certainly damage your air flow meter, you can drive like that without danger for the motor. the best you can do is to remove you air filter and check if the box where the air filter is fitted is not fill of water.if you find some water clean it up, and change your air filter ( if you have one).you air flow meter will certainly be break down ( perhaps it will be better to say OUT OF ORDER?)so if you want travel back home with more power in your engine you juste have to unplug the connector on the airflow meter. It will give to the engine calculator a false information and you will have 75 % ( perhaps less) of you normal gasoil injection. But the light on your dashboard will still be on.... good luck... stevetheroad Posted August 18, 2013 Author Posted August 18, 2013 Thank you so much, just had a look and your right, cleaned the water out, filter is ok but will change it when I get home, have disconnected the airflow metre connection, will see how it goes when I leave in 30 mins, should have thought of this myself but have other things on my mind, again thank you, great help :)) Quote

stevetheroad Posted August 19, 2013 Author Posted August 19, 2013 Cheers Thomas, how do I get the power back?, is it just a case of replacing the air filter or do I need to do more? Also how do I get the engine warning light to go off? Appreciate your help bud Quote
qman3428 Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 The Mass Air Sensor you have unplugged should have two wires inside the air intake, if they are broken you need a replacement. If they look OK clean them with a cotton bud and some spirits, be careful they are delicate. Reconnect the plug, change the airfilter, also check the drain on the airfilter box as the water should have drained out. You should find the light goes out, if not turn it off and restart the engine 5 times, if it is still on the chances are you need a new MAS Quote
