watermeade Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 Can anyone tell me if it is possible to get you brake pads replaced,by one of the quickfit/charlie brown wallahs and not affect your warranty,or indeed DIY ? Quote
wozza Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 Should not affect the warranty. Either way if it does it will only affect the impact it has the brakes which arent covered under warranty anyway. However if you have not had the brake recall thing done on the rears etc try getting citroen to replace it all for free. Quote
kfk Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 Just wish to clarify there are no brake recalls on the C4. However some vehicles, and it is only some do suffer with a specific noise issue..... not all vehicles suffer with the problem. There is nothing to stop you doing your brake pads yourself or getting another garage to carry out the repair. Quote
watermeade Posted September 8, 2006 Author Posted September 8, 2006 Ok,thanks for the advice guys,I thought that probably was the case, but didnt wish to give them cause to wiggle out of any future warranty claim I might make. Also whilst I have your attention,I posted a while ago about my tickover being a bit rough and erratic,I just wondered if anyone elase had cause to complain about the same thing, and would it be possible to alter is or is it (as I suspect) set in firmware at the factory,or could the garage up the tickover a tad via their computer, although they told me last time that they could change the throttle body which sounds like a long job,any ideas? p.s its a 1.6 petrol..... kfk Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 Engines nowadays run as lean a mixture as possible to help with emissions levels. the idle speed of the engine is controlled by the injection ecu which advances and retards the ignition whilst increasing/decreasing the injection time....this will cause slight fluctuations in the idle speed. Mixture is sensed by the lamda probe that informs the injection ecu to richn/weaken fuel mixture. There isnt a tickover screw and you are unable to adjust the mixture. Could it be that yours is runing normally? Quote
watermeade Posted September 8, 2006 Author Posted September 8, 2006 I cannot help feel that it is running rough, feel being the operative word as I can feel the engine sort of missing through my feet, like when you are sat at the light with your foot on the brake pedal,so much that now I put the handbrake on (prob like I am supposed to) :( If it (as it appears ) not to a known proplem I willput up with it,but as I understand you to be a Citroen techie,my original question was aimed at you Quote
watermeade Posted September 8, 2006 Author Posted September 8, 2006 Just to add I have also noticed that it is not as evident when the car is first started,I presume that the ECU is putting a richer mixture in to emulate a choke ? Quote
kfk Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 now you mention you feel it more when stationary with foot on the brake, i would have to confirm its likely to be normal, i have come across this before on a variety of vehicles, including a motorbike i once owned......having said that its difficult to say something is normal when your only able to write about it. Has your dealer got another vehicle same spec it can allow you to demonstrate and confirm to yourself its ok? Quote
wozza Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 Mines the same whole car vibrates actually think this has been reported by a few people now. Just think its a trait with the cars. And less lumpy when first switched on could be because the revs are higher whe the car is first started if you have not noticed mine usually starts at around 1200rpm but after a few minutes it drops to an idle of around 800rpm. Mines also the 1.6 petrol. Quote
lab44 Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 Mine does the same thing. Especially noticable with the air con on - asked my Citroen dealer about this and was told its due to the extra stress on the engine with the air con on mades it lumpy at idle. Quote
watermeade Posted September 9, 2006 Author Posted September 9, 2006 Thanks for the input guys,I feel a little better knowing mine is not the only one,and it appears to be a trait,I shall just have to live with it  Quote
