Hi all,

What is the forum feeling regarding the additives that are sold at supermarkets and spares shops that are supposed to clean the fuel systems/ injectors?

I have read bits and pieces and some say, that supermarket fuels do not contain the detergent chemicals that are in independant retailer's fuels and that it is, therefore, a good idea to add the occasional nbottle of cleaner to your fuel tank. I have added the stuff on the occasional occasion and my car is still running very nicely. I don't know if there has been any cleaning effect or not but, the car runs fine and I haven't noticed any negative, or positive reactions.

Be interesting to see other folks opnions.

Yes - I'm one of those that uses an additive to the diesel fuel tank.   The one that I use is Millers Ecomax.   The claim is that by using it at a rate of 1:1000, the cetane rating of the fuel is raised by 4.   Standard pump diesel has a cetane rating of 51 and premium diesel is 55, so by using the Ecomax, standard diesel is equivalent to premium.   So they say

Each year I have four vehicles to take to MOT.   In the month before each test I dose the vehicle with a double strength treatment and by test time, the engine usually gets a fast pass.

Hi, thanks for the comment. Sounds as though it's worth it from time to time then. So I think I'll just continue adding a cleaner from time to time.
