jryan Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 Hello, You may recall that i posted a month ago stating that my 05 C4 VTR 1.6 what i had just purchased at the time, service spanner light kept coming on and that the dealer had assured me had been serviced( i did see the job card so they were telling the truth). Well it is now going back for a fourth time to get the same problem fixed. Every time i take it in they have either serviced it again and reset the thing or just reset the thing and checked for errors on the diagnosicts!!! It works until the second or third time you start it and then forgets! For example i get in and turn on the ignition and it displays "20000" a couple of starts later it displays "0" then after you drive it it starts going "-50" "-100" etc. It also displays in KM until is starts then reverts to MPH!!! Has anyone any suggestions i can give to Citroen Glasgow on friday when i next go in its driving me mad!!!! Quote
Z3M Roadster Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 Mine reads KM until the engine starts too, I presume this is normal Quote
scoanman Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 Hi , I also have the same problem with my C4 service spanner light. After its reset it works until the second or third time the car is started then comes on again. My dealer claims to have contacted Citroen and insists that they do not have a fix for this problem at this moment in time. Quote
wozza Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 Mine reads KM until the engine starts too, I presume this is normal Nope not normal mine starts in miles. And to the other thing wasnt there a software update for this issue a while ago? Sure someone mentioned it. Quote
trypodz Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 HiHad a similar problem with the service indicator on my car (VTS 2.0 180bhp).....service indicator would come on after driving about 2 miles and stay on for exactly 22 seconds. It took 3 trips to the dealer and was eventually sorted with a software patch......they said they connected my cars on board computer to the internet and downloaded the patch directly.....not sure how true that ids but it cured the problem....I think part of the secret is keep taking it back until its sorted. Good Luck getting it sorted Quote
Ciaran2903 Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 That has happened with both my C4's.Citroen said that the car is programmed to display a service indicator after 1 year! :P but, as you said, it is just a software patch that has cured it. Quote
jryan Posted September 15, 2006 Author Posted September 15, 2006 Thanks for all the posts. Do you think i have grounds for rejection?? I think i want them to change the car! Quote
wozza Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 On that not really sounds like they just dont know the car needs a software update get them to hook it up and see how it goes if its fixed after that then no problem. Quote
Z3M Roadster Posted September 15, 2006 Posted September 15, 2006 Thanks for all the posts. Do you think i have grounds for rejection?? I think i want them to change the car! It's not like it affects your enjoyment of the car, just a nuisance which could be ignored. Quote
Guest Ben Posted September 29, 2007 Posted September 29, 2007 It's not like it affects your enjoyment of the car, just a nuisance which could be ignored. Mine has been back three times to Dixon (now Evans Halshaw) and once to another garage for supposedly having a "software update" (Four times and it still keeps coming on after a few days of driving). On my last trip to Dixons I was informed that if it happened again I would need a new dahsboard pod - I phoned up on Friday to say that it had happened a 5th time. Im going to keep taking it back until its fixed (under warranty every time). Quote
wozza Posted September 29, 2007 Posted September 29, 2007 Its a known issues now that a software update fixes. Quite a few people had the service light come back on after it had been turned off. But most people had the software update done and that was it sorted. Quote
BigJohnD Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 Mine reads KM until the engine starts too, I presume this is normalThen I have an abnormal car. Whether it's Km/h or mph, that's what appears and stays until I change it. Maybe you need a software update. Quote
Guest Ben Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 Since my last post I hae had te dashboard pod replaced (spanner warning light came on 5 seperate times - each time it went back to garage to have a "software patch" - whether this was done or whether it was just someone resetting the service indicator I dont know?! So the whole Pod was supposedly replaced - I have receipt to say so (with zero cost -under warranty). I thought it was all going ok and it has come on again!!!! <swears> So its booked in AGAIN. I will ask for the issue and revision of the software patch that they apply and specifically which bit of software this is. QUESTIONS: Does anyone know is there just one piece of software for the entire car, or is it in sections for different modules in the car?? I think the Dahsboard pod may have its own software? How is the software used in the car and how is it source controlled? Quote
kfk Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 Software updates can only be installed if an update is available....the only way of finding this out is to plug the car into a diagnostic computer which is linked to the internet.....this in turn compares software of the computer your checking on the car with software on the Citroen Server.....if an update is available it will allow you to download it......if no download available it advises the technician accordingly. It is extremely rare that we as dealers are told what the software updates are designed to cure.....all we know is that where an update is available its always a good idea to update it before replacing/condemning components......especially as the component you subsequently order may also be behind in its software version. So...if a fix is available you get the option to download it, you cant uninstall it, nor are you able to find out what it fixes......in some instances it can do away with functions you had previously become used to and liked, in other instances it might give you new functions. As to your Spanner symbol.....i would have considered that the fault was more likely to be within the BSI software as this is the computer that decides the frequency of service interval. Quote
Foxeye Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 It looks like its another "feature" of the Citroen ... we have started to get it at irregular intervals, mostly when pulling up to roundabouts? We bought the car in Feb 2006 would it still be in warranty? Quote
BigJohnD Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 For example i get in and turn on the ignition and it displays "20000" a couple of starts later it displays "0" then after you drive it it starts going "-50" "-100" etc. It also displays in KM until is starts then reverts to MPH!!! Has anyone any suggestions i can give to Citroen Glasgow on friday when i next go in its driving me mad!!!!The short answer is a software upgrade/re-install. The fault is not unknown. The countdown to the Service Spanner appearing is a combination of distance travelled and date. If Citroën Glasgow can't fix it, try another dealer. Allied Vehicles? Citroën Dealer Locator Quote
