graham2030 Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 hi, i have a citroen xantia 1.9td, driving down the road a couple of days ago and the engine made a terrible rattling noise and stopped. the aa were called and he managed to get it going but then it wont tick over and it is bailing black smoke out the exhaust. there is a light flashes on the dash that when looked up says injection problem. the timing belt was renewed not long ago and is still in tact. it will start but it has to be turned over for ages before it finaly fires, anyone any ideas graham Quote
Johndouglas Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 It could be that the timing belt has slipped a tooth. I would get the three timing holes looked at and see they all line up. Quote
graham2030 Posted September 25, 2006 Author Posted September 25, 2006 timing had slipped, the alternator belt had split and about an eighth of inch strip got wrapped around bottom pulley causing it to jump, sounds ok now, only hope it has'nt damaged anything. thanks for your help graham Quote
