johntech Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 (edited) Hello EveryoneA little about myself first. I live in the Yorkshire dales and have owned quiet a few cars over the years. My cars for the last ten years or so have been a Citroen BX, 2 Xantia's a ZX and a Mk1 C5 Estate 2.2l Automatic Executive. Now 6 months ago I was passing our local Skoda garage and there was a 3 year old Skoda Yeti SE on the forecourt. My old C5 was starting to cost big money and the little Yeti looked very pretty and I fell in love or so I thought! So a thousand pounds for the old C5 and a lot more! I was the proud owner of a pale blue automatic 1.2 se DSG Yeti.Drove home with my new little car went like a rocket, beautifully put together. BUT and it is a very big but very uncomfortable the seats are poor no lumbar support what so ever. And very rough riding suspension. So six months on. I am yearning for a return to comfy easy going motoring that as I see it now can only come from a big Citroen! So onto good old Motor trader looking for a C5 Estate about two years old or so. Hopefully a vtr+ or Executive. They do appear quite rare but appear to offer amazing value on the used market. So after all that wittering here are my queries. Is the ride with the the "steel suspension" nearly as good as the hydraulic? Are there any points to look out for in the "new" cars. One of my worries is DPF filters which caused grief with the old C5 do they still use the expensive additive?Any help gratefully received.Anybody want to buy a Yeti? I doubt it on this forum you all know whats good for you.Best Wishes John Edited April 22, 2014 by johntech Quote
Johndouglas Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 Hello & welcome to the forum. I too joined the Citroen brigade 24 years ago with a BXTZD estate and have had each new model as it came along. Just recently I parted with my 2005 Exclusive C5 and changed to a steel sprung VTR+ model. So far I'm very impressed with the ride quality. Only on very rough roads can I tell that I haven't got hydropnuematic suspension under me. The big test will come when I hitch up the caravan. I know I'm going to miss the ability to raise and lower the suspension when coupling up. Whether or not I'll be aware of the lack of self-levelling, is something I'll find out after I've got a towbar fitted. At the mo, I'm still awaiting delivery. Quote
Roger W Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Hi Johntech,I've also had Citroens for the last 25 years. On C 5's, all estates, the 2005 Exclusive was superbly comfortable, the 2009 VTR+ was all right but the 2013 Exclusive with the 'proper' suspension is so much better. For a start you get the electric seats (adjustments not heating!) and the sport button makes it much more drivable on country lanes. The VTR drove well but for long distance cruising the Exclusive is streets ahead and as I recall Coastline saying, the fatigue factor with the proper suspension is so much lower. I normally buy at about 6/9 months old and keep for 3/4 years but the latest was new as I couldn't find a 2.0 manual diesel estate at a sensible price. The new one came with a £7k discount. The only minor haggle is I bought a black one! Not the easiest to keep looking clean! Quote
