Daryl Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 Hi, I recently purchased an 2008 C5 SX. I believe these models are not fitted with parking sensors as standard but they appear to be fitted to my car. Unfortunately they are not working correctly as they beep randomly eg when there is nothing around the car I can get anything from 1 beep to 20 in the space of a couple of seconds - it's seems completely random until you get very close to something and get a near solid tone. In addition I don't appear to have a button for parking sensors, as shown in the manual, so can't turn them off? Does this mean they are likely to be aftermarket? I intend to take it back to the garage but would an understanding of the issue before I do. Thanks Quote
Johndouglas Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 Oh dear! Reading this post makes my remarks on your other post a bit obsolete. Are they only working when reverse gear is selected? Your parking kit sounds as though they are after-market sensors. Where does the beeping sound come from? Can you see the control box and the sounder? Quote
Daryl Posted June 1, 2014 Author Posted June 1, 2014 Hi johndouglas, Thanks for your quick replies. Yes, it only works in reverse gear and the sound seems to come from the back speakers. I can't see any additional speaker/sounder but I will have another check. I am concerned this means the garage will be off no help to me and I may need to either remove them or replace them to get rid of the issue! Do you know if you can replace a single sensor if it is just 1 faulty unit that is causing the problem? Is it possible to hook them up to a control button in the dash to turn them off? Thanks Quote
Johndouglas Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 On the factory fitted system, if one sensor goes down, the system stops working and shows a fault warning on the central display. That was the position with my recently departed Exclusive C5. By connecting the car to a Lexia, the faulty sensor can be diagnosed. Replacement of that faulty sensor restores the system. The factory fit system can be turned on and off at the dashboard. With the after-market kits I don't know whether or not a faulty sensor causes the system to misbehave but when I fitted them to my new C5, I only fitted two sensors (one on each corner) because I also have a flanged towball fitted which usually is picked up by the inboard sensors. It's worth noting that one replacement Citroen sensor costs £60-70, whereas a full after-market kit of four sensors, sounder and control box can be had for £16 including P&P.
