Roadhog Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 Hi peeps, bit of a weird one this, I have just won an auction for a 57 plated Grand Picasso Exclusive, it appears that the rear suspension has pumped itself right up and is not going down..just stays at maximum height, now reading around this seems to be the exact opposite of the normal problems with these, i have to go and get her (probably today) but need to know if this is normal issue and is it safe to drive 117 miles home or to my local garage (111 miles), or could it be down to a switch / fuse something or other, http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm15/sterlingcars/11%20august%2009/300514183_zps492cece0.jpg Quote
coastline taxis Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 forget the problems that c5s have as your suspension is air driven (pneumatic). Its either a fault on the compressor or both rear airbags are knackered. Your better off pulling the rear springs and airbags of the car altogether and replace with normal steel spring. As for driving it 117 miles well youl be pone of the bravest people in the world if you do and it would have to be under 20 all the way home. youd be better off getting a trailer to bring it home. the airbags im refering to are in the rear springs and NOT IN THE DASHBOARD or interior Quote
Roadhog Posted June 6, 2014 Author Posted June 6, 2014 Aha, thank you, as for being brave..nah but never actually having driven any Citroen except a Visa way back in the day this will be the first i have had experience with :), do you have any idea how much a new compressor and or air bags would be, A back story of why this car was needed is I am severely Disabled and as such have to use a class 2 Powered Wheelchair, having the option to lower the rear in order to ease the loading and unloading of the chair (125kg) would be a godsend and allow me to have a certain degree of freedom so i would really need to keep the current setup if that is feasible, the vehicle itself was got for a LOT less than it should have been so I am willing to spend some money on her, when you say a fault on the compressor do you mean a sensor not relaying height as is should and thereby causing the compressor to operate all the time ??. coastline taxis Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 Sorry to be the bearer of bad new but as of April last year the parts were no longer available to fix them. Whether the situation has changed or not I don't know. there was a lot of uproar about it and watchdog was involved. We had to stop repairing the rear suspensions for that reason and all we do now is convert them to steel spring ( which is no good for you)..do a Google on Citroen c4 suspension Harrys blog. May be prudent to phone the seller and explain your situation. like I say sorry for the bad news Quote
