I'm having the sump cleaned out and turbo checked later on this week (1.6 HDI) ....while they're at it, is it worth getting them to blank off the EGR Valve ? ........I've heard this is one of the reasons carbon deposits build up in the engine ...... Is it legal to do ? and if it is, is there any likelyhood of it not being legal in the future......also is it just a case of fitting a blank, or does the engine management system need to be told that the EGR valve has been blanked off .........I'm using a diesel specialist rather than a Citroen delership (£78.00 per hour + VATseemed a bit steep) so they probably won't have access to a Lexia.

Any thoughts / Advice would be appreciated

I've heard reports from guys that have blanked off the EGR that their EML has come on. Others have had no trouble after doing it. However as the rules now stand, any modification to the emissions system renders the car illegal. See this notice issued to MOT stations:-

"A vehicle might still pass the MoT visible smoke emissions test whilst emitting illegal and harmful levels of fine exhaust particulate. It is an offence under the Road vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations (Regulation 61a(3))1 to use a vehicle which has been modified in such a way that it no longer complies with the air pollutant emissions standards it was designed to meet, making the vehicle illegal for road use."

If your vehicle is deemed to be "illegal for road use" then it follows that your insurance policy will be void.
