Hello & welcome to the forum.

Your trouble stems from the fact that the bearings on the swinging arms are shot. So now the more weight that is put on the rear of the car, the more the wheels will push in at the top - like /-------\ this. The Xsara that my daughter recently sold also had the same trouble. The solution is either a recon back axle or a swop with one from a breaker, or replacing the bearings in situ. One from a breaker may be as bad as your own.

I decided to get a recon from these people...http://sspengineering.co.uk/

They are in Devon but do mail order. For the same cost as delivery, they will also fit it. So I opted for a day out in the country and drove the car to them. They've got all the gear to do the job and I was in and out within three hours, with me watching progress in the workshop.

Daughter's o/s wheel was rubbing so badly that before setting off on the 140 journey, I put four washers between the wheel and the brake discs to provide a bit of clearance.

Bearing kits are available at around £30 a side, but you need a very comprehensive kit of tools to change them. Also the housings and shafts may also be damaged. If you look on Youtube, there are vids about it.
