winnie Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Is it easy to change the battery, I ask because of the computer and radio, do I just take the 2 terminals off and connect the new battery. Quote
Johndouglas Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 If you do it that way it can lead to all sorts of electrical problems. If you go to our "Common faults" page you'll find the correct method printed as Number 16. Find it here:- http://www.citroen-o...s-rev-22122014/ Quote
Porsche430 Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 According to Citroen, switch off the ignition and wait for 3 minutes before disconnecting the battery. I'd maybe wait around 5 minutes just to be safe. Remove the two terminals, starting with the positive terminal. You haven't said what type of C5 but they are all secured one way or another. C5 X7 held in my a 3/8" quarter turn screw, not sure if anything secures the MK1 and MK2 C5's, just lots of trim! Cars from PSA do not require any radio code and all that should be affected by disconnecting the battery is the time and date will be reset and you will need to reconfigure the anti-pinch on the windows if it has one touch electric action. Do this by opening and closing the window one time fully and hold the switch in "close" direction for 2 seconds. You should hear a click from the regulator on the window your a configuring if done correctly. Hope this can help. Quote
winnie Posted January 20, 2015 Author Posted January 20, 2015 (edited) I have taken the battery off after finding the right spanner and ordered a new battery, next day delivery, price £64.I was amazed how easy it was, 2 clips to release the terminals, that's new, used to have to undo a nut and bolt, then one nut, half a turn to release the battery and this had 2 handles to lift it out. Thanks for the help, keeping fingers cross it will be that easy to put the new one in.Citroen C5 estate 2001 diesel 2000cc go's like the wind.... Porsche430 Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 The old C5 were cracking big cars, especially with a big torquey diesel engine and an automatic box. A proper cruiser! The worst thing about them from a mechanics point of view is the horrific rear split calipers. Horrible design and not been seen since the C5 MK2, thank God! When reconnecting the battery, earth terminal first! Why are you changing the battery, may I ask? Quote
winnie Posted January 20, 2015 Author Posted January 20, 2015 Changing battery because I tried to start car this morning (very iced up car) and it turned over but got progressively slower, my wife that drove it the day before said it took 2 attempts to start. It has always been a very good starter in the past but now the battery is as good as dead and don't have a charger I plumped for a new battery.Hoping this is all that it needs. winnie Posted January 21, 2015 Author Posted January 21, 2015 The battery has arrived at 5.30pm and its to dark to put it on, so hoping for a dry day in the morning.I did find in my shed my battery tester, I tested the old one, it said 25% charge, new one 75% to 100%.The price of the battery was £62.99 free delivery and 3 years warranty. Porsche430 Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 Let us know how you get on. Wouldn't be a bad idea to grease up the terminals with something like Vaseline (or just normal grease!) to stop corrosion on the new battery and existing harness to increase it's life. Quote
winnie Posted January 22, 2015 Author Posted January 22, 2015 Put battery on with some grease on the terminals, started first time.Off to Lee On The Solent just to give it a run and the dog.Tanks for the help Quote
Porsche430 Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 Excellent news, enjoy the big beauty that is the C5! :) Quote
