nattrill Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 Has anyone else had the problem of brake squeal when you are not actually applying the brakes? If I am going in a strait line, or turning left, my brakes squeal. If I am braking, or turning right, they do not squeal. This happens when I have been driving for about 20mins. Once it starts it wont stop fot the whole journey. It is a very loud noise, louder that just new pads bearing in. Tried cleaning the brake mechanisms (well I didn't personally, I left it to my father in law :P ), which solved it for about 2 months. But now the squeal is back. The local garage could not find anything wrong. Has anyone got a fairly permanent solution? Quote
Johndouglas Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 Make sure the callipers are free to slide on the guide pins. Quote
stimulator Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 This can occur because the leading edges of the pads 'sing' on the discs. A common cure for this is to remove the pads and chamfer the leading edges with a file so that they have no sharpe edges to touch the discs. Give or the father-in-law give a try. Quote
