wcs1 Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 hi i need some advice please if anybody knows about this issue?I have a 2003 xsara 2.0 hdi estate, 128k runs great but I have one or two issues starting, from when I start it from cold, every now and then a beep sound starts and my stop light flashes also the temp needle goes up and down and the temp light comes on, at the same time my radiator fan comes on aswell, this is when the engine is cold so its not overheating, it does this on and off for 20 mins until the engine is at running temp then it goes back to normal, I have been told it could be one of the resistors behind the radiator? if so are the resistors the same as each other so if I buy one and it does not work can I then switch them over?I had a look on youtube but couldn't find much about it. I have another issuewhen I start the car from cold it sounds lovely, just as a diesel should, but when it warms up there is a knocking/clicking coming from the drivers side towards the bottom of engine, it sounds like one of the pulleys but it does not do this when cold, I been reading up and most people say if its the pulley? it will make the noise when cold also, any ideas? any help would be great thanks Quote
Johndouglas Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 On the first problem, it could be that your temperature sender is playing up. It will cost you about a tenner for a new one from Citroen. It's situated in the right hand end (as you look at the engine) of the cylinder block and it's held in place by a clip which goes downwards. There are a few pipes etc to remove for access. Yes! The clicking could be the rubber braking up in the crank pulley. It needs checking pronto because if it separates when it's spinning rapidly, it can cause all manner of trouble. Quote
wcs1 Posted January 25, 2016 Author Posted January 25, 2016 thanks for the replyi have my car booked in for friday, going to replace the temp sender and bottom pulley, i would do it myself but my back is playing up and he is only charging £20 to fit:) Quote
wcs1 Posted January 29, 2016 Author Posted January 29, 2016 the temp sensor was shot, it now runs better, the lights have stopped flashing the rad fan works normal now, also it was the crank pulley, the engine sounds sweet now, I think it was a good gamble buying this car, people keep telling me how good the hdi engine are, so all is good Quote
Johndouglas Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 That's nice to hear that it's all fixed. And thanks for coming back to tell us the outcome. Not every one does..... :(...... Yes! the Xsara with the hdi engine is a brilliant car. My daughter had one from new in 2002 till 2014 and she loved it - also fairly easy to work on too. Quote
