Yesterday I put a heavy parcel on the front passenger seat and drove away. The seat belt sounder started although I was wearing mine. I stopped and rolled the parcel onto the floor. No warning ping. I then pressed down on the squab where the parcel had been. The 'ping; started immediately. Obviously the detector is in the seat.

You have a C5 though, haven't you?

Tried that with my C4, didn't happen like that, I still think its different

I get an audible warning if I don't buckle up, but my passenger doesn't, only a visual one, they only get an audible if they unbuckle and don't buckle up again. Perhaps kfk could enlighten us?

Citroen were one of the leading companies in there day for new technologies.

Arent they still leading with some technology? ok so some might need tweaking but I think if my air bag is going to go off I'd rather have one that is from a fixed point than a steering wheel that's on full lock blowing your head off

Completely of topic, but I have discovered that compared to a lot of cars, the Cruise Control on the C4 is lovely.

For example, my brothers Civic, it does the job, but you can feel the CC 'hunting' around trying to maintain the set speed. The C4's isnt like that, its smooth and unobtrusive.

I wouldnt say Citroen are a technological leader, but they are keeping up ok. I'd still say Mercedes leads the way with new incar technology, and Maybe Honda with the new Legend (terrible name for a terribly dull car, very clever though).

Even VW have experimanted with a Golf that will drive itself using cameras to 'view' its surroundings.

SO what happens if you've got someone in the back all belted up and then you drop them off somewhere. Is the car going to complain because someone has obviously removed their seatbelt to get out of the car?

No its fine....

When you get in the car you have a certain amount of time to put the buckle in. At that point the car then recognises who is sat where by the buckles that are fastened. Empty seats are shown as unbuckled.

When someone gets out, the light illuminates as to show unbuckled. Once out of the door and closed again it remains off.

I think it works on the principle that the engine is still running door open/closed passenger out. However I think the sequence is different for the driver side as you will always have a driver therefore should always be buckled up.

If you dont buckle up and drive away you get an anoying alarm go off which progressivly gets louder and more anoying!

It will show the belt as being undone, bt then once you drive off again, it will cancel.

Im sure it does beep if you continue to drive along and someone removes they're belt.

I've finally got the answer to this. Apparently there was some kind of issue with the warning system. On the earlier software releases it worked as a few of us had suggested - it used the pressure sensors to detect someone on the seat, and beeped if there was pressure and no belt i.e. someone sitting without their belt on.

Owing to the problems, in a later software release which is applied whatever your car goes in for, this changes to beep only if a seatbelt is unplugged whilst in motion.

The line I was given was "it ain't never gonna work again" - hmm :)

One pictures 100s of lone-driver C4s driving around with the bloody rear seatbelt warnings going off :D

On my C5 the rear seat belts don´t sound the alarm - only the lights are on and a message on the display "None of the rear belts are fastened" -- even though the rear seats are folded flat. After a few minutes the message and lights go off.
