Wan Posted March 13, 2016 Posted March 13, 2016 Hi all, I just bought a 2008 C4 Grand Picasso 1.6 Hdi 110Bhp. The mileage is around 61,800..quite low but my friend recommended me to change the timing belt..I checked the manual it recommends the timing belt to be changed at 150k (normal), 120k(severe) or 10 years. I thought I don't have to change the timing belt because the mileage is still low but my friend just had me worries now haha...is it wise to change the timing belt after 8 years, 2 years before the recommended...has anyone ever change their timing belt before the recommended time? I just don't want change it if it's not necessary...the original timing belt must be very high quality if it can last 120k miles or 10 years....but at the same time there is this worry at the back of my head..and it's bugging me...urghhh.... Johndouglas Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 In my experience mileage is more detrimental to a cambelt that years in service. Two of my family cars are both 1998 models and because of their low mileage, I didn't change their belts until 2010. Neither belt showed any signs of distress. However, I would not be happy to leave a belt on my car to the mileages that are now recommended. With my previous C5 I started to get anxious when it passed 80000 miles/7 years, and at that point, the belt was changed. In my opinion you need not be too worried yet. Quote
Wan Posted March 14, 2016 Author Posted March 14, 2016 Thank you Johndouglas, that removes a bit of my worries..I don't think I'm going to change the belt yet, maybe at least wait until it reaches 80,000 miles. Quote
Wan Posted March 14, 2016 Author Posted March 14, 2016 Do you know if Citroen will give compensation if the belt breaks earlier than what it recommends? I highly doubt it but just curious.... Quote
