kinander Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 I own a C5 2.0 HDI 2007. It been fine with out problems for years, but yesterday driving in to town suddenly a rattling noise came from the engine and the clutch pedal was shaking when pressed. It started very suddenly and with in seconds it made so much noise that ppl where turning there heads on the street.I thought the whole engine was about to explode. The car was running normally except for the noise. I pulled over as soon as I could and turned the car off. I open the bonnet and started looking for a gearbox falling off or anything obvious but could see anything. I asked my wife to start the car up to try to locate the noise. Now the rattle was gone, nothing! The car run fine and has now for two days. Can someone help me? Is it the DMF? I got the feeling if it has failed I would feel it constantly?Or could it have been dirty fuel? Or a computer gone crazy making the car misfire? (strangely it was running fine even when making hell of a racket). Quote
coastline taxis Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 i would go with the dmf as it sound like it from what youve said. Replace it with a solid flywhell and clutch ( 4 in 1 kit ). europarts do a valeo kit for £250 Quote
kinander Posted April 28, 2016 Author Posted April 28, 2016 Thanks for your answer. My only concern is that I shut down the engine (with a noise sounding like the car was about to explode), and start it up less then a minute later and it's all fine??Is it a normal behavior when the DMF about to fail?I would have assumed that it would continue to make a noise?? coastline taxis Posted April 28, 2016 Posted April 28, 2016 not really weve had similar instances were it runs out of balance and cant correct itself due to spinning then by switching engine off and restarting it all is fine till the next time Quote
