Hi there I'm new to the forum which I've just joined to see if I can diagnose a problem which I'm having with my van, it's a 2012 Citroen relay 2.2, I've owned the van for 2 weeks and Ive got a problem with the engine which I'm experiencing only for the first 2 minutes, so I go outside start the van in the Morning, starts perfect everytime but I'm experiencing a knocking noise. Think it's only when I'm moving not sure (when engine is under load), after 2 mins of driving it's fine, turn engine off after the estimated 2 mins, start up again and it's fine, it's like when engine gets to running temp it's fine or when it's lubricated etc, it's driving me mad, just hope it's not the bottom end or anything what requires a new engine, I don't know much about diesels but I do know this noise is not normal, it's not the everyday Diesel engine noise. I've got a vid not sure if I can upload it on here or not, if anyone can help me out I would be very greatfull,Steve

drain the oil and make sure its got the right grade in it. sounds like it might be a a hydraulic lifter on the camshaft not getting lubricated due to oil being to thick then once warmed it thins out .  other option could be a diesel knock.  Extra diesel is put into the cylinders when its cold . use a diagnostic tool to check what readings are being sent to the ecu from the engine temperature sensor as that is what control,s the cold start

Hi thanks for the reply, it's just had a full service last week and still the same, there is a flashing red oil light on the dash but I was told that it's the oil service reset light but I did get the oil pressure sensor changed before that just invade it wasn't,some still say oil reset light some say it's not, it's stressing me out.

the red flashing oil light indicates a service reset is needed  and also warns of oil degradration. It can only be reset using diagnostic tools.  You need to find out what oil was put into the van and book into the dealers to get the light switched off (£20). then start again. dont ignore this as when your van does a dpf regeneration it pumps extra diesel to burn it off and some of this diesel goes into the sump and contaminates the oil. so check dipstick and see if oil level has increased. Make sure you have the right oil grade in it as these engines are famous for putting a conrod throught the engine block due to oil contamination or the wrong oil grade

I rang my local Citroen last week to turn the light off and the woman who I was talking to said they can't do it because they didn't service it so it would be illegal :/ I'm going to have to ring around, as for oil he used 5/30 which he said was the correct oil to use, I was hoping that this would sort the engine but unfortunately not :(
