coastline taxis Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 Could be the solenoids or the clutches. Could try a diagnostic see if that shows up anything. These boxes are a specialist job so be carefull who u let touch it Quote
twoseefives Posted August 16, 2016 Author Posted August 16, 2016 Thanks coastline ,will have further investigations. On a real unhappy note have found a weeping hydraulic pipe !!I think part no.5270RN 300 quid ouch ! I,m going to keep lds topped up see how bad it is.I seem to be plagued with pipe probs changed all the engine water pipes on my 3.0 hdi they were badly corroded 30000mls ,main hydraulic pipe front to rear axle an epic job on my 2.2 slug only part left on the car was the front passenger wheel!! coastline taxis Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 yes ive done a few front to rear pipes and they are a epic pain in the @rse to do. depending on the year it might be cheaper all round to convert it to a manual box via a cheap donor car Quote
twoseefives Posted August 18, 2016 Author Posted August 18, 2016 Thanks for reply ..have used the car and it appears that if driven hard on kickdown its trying to change down 2 gears and it feels like its jamming the intermediate change ie 4 3 2 ..3 not releasing tried 543 and other combinations just the same...in snow mode no problem ,i assume torque limits on changes are different and i,m wondering if kickdown could be eliminated in computer reprogram,at least for time being. Im going to put some miles on it to see if its self cures or dies!! Really impressed with 2.0 am compared to 2.2 al box i know my 2 .2 could be tired 205000mls but even so..... Quote
twoseefives Posted September 20, 2016 Author Posted September 20, 2016 Just an update ..since last post done nearly 1000mls and low and behold there is a marked improvement.almost back to normal. Can still jolt when changind down on kickdown but dose not feel like the box is leaving the car. This is not really a surprise as most citroens seem to have the ability to cure or kill themselves .Ive had limp mode issues for over 80000 mls car still reliable just turn ignition off wait 15 sec start up and carry on(when safe to do~..I should say thorough servicing on essentials is very important. I think we panic to much when a light comes on panic only when it wont start or stop... Quote
coastline taxis Posted September 20, 2016 Posted September 20, 2016 changing the oil once isn't a full oil change as the drain plug doesn't drain the torque convertor. once you put it in drive the new oil becomes contaminated with old oil from the t convertor. so it needs two to give it a proper oil change and if you've noticed a difference with a partial change then it might be worth your while giving it another one Quote
twoseefives Posted September 23, 2016 Author Posted September 23, 2016 Yes though it might require a few oil changes ,but its definately getting better .To many short trips with previous owner maybe!! Quote
Valleyprint Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 Hi, I live in France, and I have today joined this forum, which I have to say, I find impressive. I bought two years ago C5 tourer 2010. I have a nagging problem with the automatic gearbox, for example; I drive on the motorway up hill, 6 the gear drops down to 5th in to safe mode. Three signal bongs are heard, sign on dashboard gearbox fault, service, and display of gearlever positionsI had changed the correct fluid = no different. I bought from Poland a second hand gearbox (from an accident crash 2000 Euros) only about one year old, had it fitted, same problem arisen, changed both drive shafts, since vibration had occurred, now cured. I bought four new correct type Michelin tyres. Both the drive shafts and tyres did slightly reduce the problem. But the problem persist, the slightest resistance a little more peddle, three bongs.I drove 650 kilometres to the South of France pulling a small single axle trailer, 'bong bong bong' so…drove in manual mode. I am not completely convinced at this stage that it could be 2 electro valves. but I am willing to try anything. I was in Manchester last year for a holiday, called in to the Citroen garage and left the car for three days, paid £120 quid diagnosis report. Citroen could only find reported codes, they proposed I should buy a new gearbox £10.000 + fitting. 'Well… of course I didn't'.If anyone can help, I will be most grateful. Are there any sensors that I should look at, if so how many, and where will I find them? And finally has anyone have a workshop manual in English that anyone could send me, my email address; darrell.hughes@orange.fr Thank you in advance. Quote
Rookie2 Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 (edited) The problem with most automatics is oil contamination. The whole system, especially inside the Torque Convertor, collects what looks like black silt. I havehad years of problems with the AL4 boxes, if my memmory is correct, it is possible to bu replace ment valve packs for the gearbox for abour 350.00 off ebay. However, getting back to the torque convertor, if you can find an autobox reconditioners they should have a flushing rig.The flushing rig connects two hoses to your gearbox, one inlet and one outlet. The rig pumps new auto fluid into the box and flushes it through and out of the outlet. The amount of black gunge that gets loosend from the bottom of the torque convertor is amazing. Once the oil starts to run clear then the rig is switched off, your auto box oil level is checked and WOW !!!!! does it make a difference to the performance of the auto box. It is an expensive process as you are paying for gallons of auto fluid, I think I paid 270.00 altogether and that was baout 6 years ago. So I would advise you to find an auto box reconditioning company who have a flushing rig. If you have the AL4 auto box, there were some oil pressure solenoid kits available and for the same gearbox you will find the whole valve pack (for inside the gearbox) available on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Renault-Peugeot-Fiat-Citroen-AL4-DP0-Automatic-Gearbox-Valve-Body-/222430988747?hash=item33c9eb89cb:g:gpAAAOSwBahU-bfm The following are the pressure solenoid valves which generall are responsible for lack of gearchange pressure.. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2574-16-transmission-Solenoid-Valve-For-Fiat-Renault-Peugeot-Citroen-AL4-DPO-New-/252526360161?hash=item3acbbe7661:g:5ikAAOSwoBtW4pAc By the way, it is not beyond the scope of someone who is handy with the tools to change these solenoids or the valve packs themselves. But please note, that is only for the AL4 box. Edited March 9, 2017 by Rookie2 Quote
