lab44 Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 Anyone else had any problems with their tyres losing pressure? Just checked mine and they were reading approx 4psi below what they were 6 weeks ago when i last pumped them up. So far had to pump them up about 5 times since I got the car 7 months ago. Unlikely to be a puncture on all four tyres. Had my last car three years and I think I pumped the tyres up about 3 times in that period. Any ideas? Quote
Ciaran2903 Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 I seem to be filling my tires up regularly aswell, but this is my first car so this is normal?!? I cant remember the last time my parents filled up their tyres.... :o Quote
C4VTS Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 Tyres should be checked once per week at least. If you have only lost 4psi in 6 weeks it does not sound unusual. Quote
lab44 Posted November 9, 2006 Author Posted November 9, 2006 I check them usually around once a month. However my previous car never really required them pumping up. The three other cars in my household rarely have their tires checked and when they do don't seem to need any extra air. So what I really want to know is this normal for the C4? (just checking really there isnt any problem I should be aware of or anything broken :o Quote
wozza Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 Think i have had to put air in mine twice since i have had the car. Which is now 12 months. Quote
hertsnminds Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 Problem is not the tyres but finding a garage with a working air supply  Mine seems to be faily close to recommended pressures when I check them. IanBlack 55 VTR+ Quote
ham's c4vts Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 get your self a foot pump or an electric pump, you should check your tyres when they are cold Quote
Stuey Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 done mine twice in 15 months....not really a problem Quote
Rich_Eason Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 Yes in answer to the topic about ever 4 weeks i get a beep I bought a crappy air compressor for 5 quid, never used until one day used it in anger to pump up the tyre of a sack truck, talking 5inch tyre max. Pushed it on fired it up and the compressor just blew apart with the first rotation of the compressor. Gees cant buy anything for £5 these days! :P Quote
C4VTS Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 I have a Halfrauds 12v compressor which has been giving me good service. Not really needed it on my C4 yet, but used it often on my last car.Cost about 15 notes 2 years ago. Quote
Safety Engineer Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 I tend to top mine up every four weeks or so, compared to other tyres I've had I've always found Michelin a little on the porus side and not one of the best for pressure retention. Quote
dave&trace Posted November 11, 2006 Posted November 11, 2006 we had michelins and they lost pressure we now have hankooks and they don`t losse pressure at allTyre pressure sensors do not need reactivating when a new tyre is fitted but make sure you put them back on the same wheel on the same corner Quote
ham's c4vts Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 i wouldnt of thought it would mater which wheel went where on the car as it only sends a signal, maybe KFK can clear it up? Quote
wozza Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 It'll matter due to the tyre sensor saying which tyre is suffering from low pressure. They will be programmed to be for a specific wheel. Plus front and rear run at different pressures as well. think its 35 front 37 rear if i remember right. Quote
ham's c4vts Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 or will they all be set the same (eg. lowest pressure?) and when loosing say 1 psi they will alert you?as when it comes up on the display it just tells you which tyre it is. i bet if i put it on the rear it wouldnt matter. Renault (Rubbish) Renault (Rubbish) Quote
wozza Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 Well if you put a front sensor on the rear it would say the front tyre is messed up. Rather than the rear if it detected a problem. Each sensor is programmed for a specific tyre. Quote
ham's c4vts Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 ill try it next week if weather is ok on Sunday Quote
dave&trace Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 have a friend who has a Renault (Rubbish) with tyre pressure sensors and each valve has a different coloured ring on it so tyre has to go on a set corner. But the C4 has pick up sensors above each wheel so i think ham could be right, if you let a tyre down front or rear you need to drop pressure by about 7 or 8 psi before it alarms, but our citroen dealer told us to put wheel back on same corner.I didn`t agree with him but what do i know?so Hams experiment will be interseting let us know. kfk Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 It doesnt matter which wheel is on which corner....providing it has a sensor fitted. When the wheel sensors are programmed the tyres are over inflated to activate 'learning mode', the sensor is then programmed to the vehicle. The vehicle computer at the end of this excercise will know the 'code names' of the 4 tyre pressure sensors......tyres are then deflated to the correct pressure. The computer knows which end of the vehicle you wheels are fitted too due to having 2 aerials (recievers) close to the relevant wheels....the front one is under the o/s/f wheel splash shield. Having worked out the front/rear bit it then needs to learn left/right. It does this by measuring wheel speed when turning......if you turn left for instance your inner wheels rotate at a lower speed than the outer. So the computer knows the code names emited from each of the wheels and can tell where it has been fitted....the reference tyre pressure information is stored in the main computer. As far as tyres losing pressure. Dont forget that it could be the wheel thats porous or even a poor seal on the bead due to corrosion, or a tyre valve leaking. Quote
Ciaran2903 Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 I love it how us mortals could discuss something, (relitively) minor, for ages. Then someone says "KFK Will Know", and then out of the blue you settle the matter.......magic! :D :P B) Just shows what us mortals really know... Quote
wozza Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 I did not know the C4 had sensors in the arches. Quote
C4VTS Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 I did not know the C4 had sensors in the arches. The C4 seems to have more computers and sensors than the PC we use to complain about it :D It knows what we are thinking B) :P Quote
