terrwilk Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 Hi all, Anybody had the disturbing sensation of a rock hard brake pedal and NO braking effort at all!!!! Only way to stop the car was the handbrake!! It happened to my other half and scared her s**tless. Basically, she drove away from her works and at the first application of the brakes ........ NOTHING .......... plus no warnings of anything wrong either, then when she vigerously pumped the brake pedal, suddenly everything was normal. The only thing that has been done to the car was replacement of the rear brake calipers, they are the modified type, due to a squeal when in reverse. ANYONE had this disturbing phenomenon? Stuey Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 if the brake pedal goes solid that is the ABS I think. What where the road conditions like, if it was greasy then it is a possibility that it got confused... Quote
Mike5483 Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 Sounds to me like something had stuck and pumping the pedal dislodged it. Should have been picked up before the car was returned really. Quote
terrwilk Posted November 24, 2006 Author Posted November 24, 2006 Hi all, Watch out, problem found on brake servo valve on several cars ..... but no recall ....... this not good ...... if ever there should be a recall, it should be on the braking system, CITROEN get your act together!!!!!!!!!!! terrwilk Quote
c14vts Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 no problem with the brakes at all but have the annoying squeal in reverse which now begs the question do i book my car in to sort out the sqealing brakes or just leave it after the problems with your car ;) :D  Quote
C4VTS Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 I once thought my brakes did not work, but thought i must have imagined it. Worth keeping an eye on B) Quote

terrwilk Posted November 25, 2006 Author Posted November 25, 2006 Hi all, Yes book your car in for sqealing brakes, new rear calipers and pads under warranty. The problem seems to be solved with the braking system, but willkeep you posted. terrwilkC4 EXC Quote
terrwilk Posted December 18, 2006 Author Posted December 18, 2006 Hi all, Car back in for brakes not working again. It was ok after they replaced something last time All scratching their heads, got a loaner car, and they wanted to give us our car back cos they could not replicate defect and wanted their loaner back!!! I strongly suggested to them that they keep our car until either they find the problem OR replace a component on spec. What kind of idiot gives a car back to the owner with a reported safety defect?? philstott1983 Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 If i pump the brakes, there is a rather loud squelching noise that comes from what is roughly the passenger footwell. Hoping this is normal....................... Quote
kfk Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 How can you say you have cured a fault if you cant fault it? About 5 years back we had a customer bring a Picasso in with intermittent loss of brakes. We did all the usual checks but couldnt replicate the fault. Customer basically told us that they wern't prepared to accept the car back and couldnt accept were unable to get the fault to occur whilst we were driving it. It subsequently transpired that the vehicle had been to another dealer locally with this fault and the customer was unhappy that they also couldnt find fault so bought it to us. Decision was made, on the basis that it was 'NFF' that I would drive the vehicle round for a week.....in other words if i'm going to say unable to fault I will show i'm prepared to drive it with confidence......after all if i wont why should the customer? A week passed, still no fault present, still unable to convince the customer its ok.......so what to do? Well in my infinite wisdom i decided to order a master cylinder, all discussions pointed to this being a possible cause and i didnt really relish being sued by the customer in the event something should happen. So we hung onto the car and parked it in the back carpark out of the way whilst we awaited delivery of the part which had now gone backorder. Obviously you will realise from this we still hadn't recreated the fault and now the car was sitting around doing nothing. One night still bugged by not having reproduced the fault i now had a part on order for, i made a decision to suprise the car, i was going to move it and let it do my journey home that night.....and off i went.....as expected without a problem. Following morning journey into work, just turning into our entrance and i noticed a man with a video camera.....thought it was odd. Drove into the car park and made a few notes on the jobcard when i heard a tap on the side window. Irritated because it was 15 minutes before we opened i wound the glass down and aknowledged this disturbance of my time to be greeted with "what do you think your doing?"....i can still remember thinking to myself what am i doing?....what does he mean what am i doing?......i answered... ermmm....filling in some paperwork......i'll be with you in a moment. He asked the question again, this time he gave me a clue.........'Thats My Car, What are you doing'? Taken a back by his tone and the question i decided that maybe now was the time to get out of the car, if only so he could see that i was bigger than him. It transpired that i had been seen driving his car the previous evening by his wife coming in the opposite direction, i wasnt doing anything wrong, except the last message the servce manager left with them before he went on holiday was that there car wasnt being used. The paperwork that susequently followed with threats of what he was going to do with the video footage, the damage he said we had caused on his car (when his wife had signed to say she had seen it with us) The accusations over the mileage we supposedly drove his car for and the fact i was driving his car without a seat cover (i was in a suit for FS).......his car was parked untill the part arrived some 3 weeks later, i might add he had been in a courtesy car all this time supplied by us! Upon completion they refused to collect it from us and wanted it delivered, which we did. "so did we cure the problem?".......I dont know, I stopped driving it....After all his argument for me was that his brakes were dangerous and he didnt want his wife and kids in the car when they fail!.......It was OK for me though! I might add to anyone reading this, sometimes a vehicle has to be used to recreate a fault. Some might think its a joyous job roadtesting all these wonderfull cars. My Neighbours when they see me regularly ask: "So whats up with this one then?" Quote
C4VTS Posted December 19, 2006 Posted December 19, 2006 "So whats up with this one then?" That quote reminds me of a sales training video featuring John Cleese. 'Who Sold You This Then' It's a great laugh if your employer is able to loan this out to you. ;) If anyone has a copy, I would like it too. <_< Quote
Stuey Posted December 20, 2006 Posted December 20, 2006 there are a select few people in this world who are complete tits...that guy was one of them. You love driving the various exotica you get to take home KFK. I would love to drive 1989 AX's all the time :P Quote
