red_baron Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 Hi all... I bought a 2001 Xsara 1.6 16v in July. Since I bought the car, the accelerator pedal has become "notchy". I disconnected the throttle cable a couple of months ago and lubricated it which seemed to help and make the actuation more fluid - since then its got gradually worse again. On a couple of occasions when I've been tanking it with my foot almost on the floor, the accelerator pedal has stuck on the floor (momentarily) and the engine hits the rev-limiter for about 2-3 seconds. With the cable disconnected, the pedal is smooth to operate, but the moulding that the cable fits into on the throttle body is a bit notchy to turn too. There's also a bit of resistance in the cable itself. Should I get myself a new cable, or does it sound a bit more serious? Cheers,Ian Quote
kfk Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 Cheapest option is to replace the throttle cable and then reasses it ......you would be suprised how much a new throttle cable can improve things. Quote
